As always, preparation was key to survival during Irene

Revere Beach

Cat took a trip to Revere Beach, where she reports she was most impressed by the guy packing a coffee for his storm surging:

Wherever you go, make sure you hold a cup with a beverage of some sort in your hand. without that, you are not a true American!!

When did this trend start of everyone having to have a beverage in their hand at all times as if it were a fashion accessory? I see it everywhere. People on the T with their refillable coffee mugs with lids are the most annoying. Is it absolutely necessary to drink coffee on the T like you are at your kitchen table? And don't get me started on all the people who eat full meals on the T. No one minds someone eating an apple or a candy bar or some sort of snack, but full meals with utensils and all is a bit much.

where you are seeing people eating full meals with utensils on a regular basis? In my 30+ years of riding the T, I've only observed this once or twice.

And, although I don't carry a beverage with me 24/7 as a fashion statement, I'll admit I've gotten into the habit of having a large bottle of water (or soda if water isn't available) with me when I'm on the commuter rail. Stems from one of the times last winter when I was stuck on a train for over an hour and a half and suddenly became very thirsty.
