I'm happy to finally see him achieve this minor milestone in the annals of Major League Baseball. He has finally joined the elite club of 108 other people in the majors to reach this lofty place in history.

But seriously, as a fan I can appreciate the little things in, well, fandom. Nice job, Wake!!

But this headline seems to be in pretty poor taste considering the previous story.

Do you find the sports section in poor taste because it's in the same newspaper as the preceding tragic story? That's what you have here, albeit without the usually defined borders provided by a print news source.

I'm no fan of Henry, Werner, Lucchino or Epstein or their far-left politics, but Tim Wakefield is a class act. When I realized tonight could be the night, field box tickets were available at Gate E at face value and temps were in the July range, I raced right in. Not for management but for Wakefield. I can't recall the last time I paid for a ticket, and in speaking with the veteran in the booth, neither could he. What an electric atmosphere!

Having attended three Patriots Superbowls (2-1), both recent Sox World Series (2-0) and the Bruins Game 6 (of which they won the Stanley Cup in 7), this one was right up there. Congrats Tim Wakefield, and thank you for your longevity!

...they are the RED sox. A bunch of socialist-fascist-commies runnin around the field. Indeed it all went to hell as soon as they let the blacks start playing.

Couldn't just let a ball game be a ball game?

P.S. I don't like Epstein either but that's not due to his politics (wasn't aware that he had any, beyond the charity thing). It's due to his frigging over the farm system and blowing huge money on players that just aren't worth it.

You mean the farm system that produced Youkilis, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Papelbon, Bard, Lester, etc? What's wrong with the farm system?

Where are the Youklis, Pedroia, Ellsbury, Papelbon, Bard, Lester, etc. of the future playing? Many of them should be in Portland and Pawtucket, but are instead playing for other systems.

However, I think there is quite a depth of talent in the Redsox system, and am not so concerned about this issue. First, the guys that we've listed here are all fairly young, so there is no likely spot for a promising replacement who is close to being ready. Where do those guys go? Do we make them languish in AAA, or do we trade them for something we need today, so that they can end up playing for a less well stocked MLB team? Was it a mistake to give up Hanley Ramirez for Josh Becket and Mikey Lowell?
