I used to work there, then the new regulations came out, and we were told by our boss to just go on the sidewalks anyway, even if we get a ticket. That's when I decided it was a good time to opt out. Fortunately I left before they started handing out tickets. Unfortunately I am now looking for work.
Thanks, mikey

Someone's personal injury lawsuit will be a slam-dunk. Might also turn into criminal charges.

... when a car right-hooks a segway and kills the occupant, and the city's ban is thrown out?
You think they'd let Segways on the sidewalks after that?

I would've guessed they'd ban Segways from streets for that. And tell the jerk tour operator he can go pound sand (but not with a Segway).
They should (and will) be banned altogether

They should be banned altogether, because should we ever finally get bike lanes, this guy will have them clogged with tilts of disoriented tourists on Segways. (Yes, "tilts." Why not?)
Yay!

It's pretty clear that you are the only criminal here Danley.
Have fun in court.

When a Segway hits a pedestrian on the sidewalk, that tour operator is going *down* when they hear that he instructed his people to continue to operate on the sidewalk despite full awareness of the ordinance.
pedestrians finally win in Boston

A huge victory for Boston to become more pedestrian friendly. These belong in the suburban malls, not the tiny sidewalks of Boston. Boston is a walkable city in spite of Menino, not because of his policies for the past 20 years.
This is finally a sign that things may be changing.
yeah, not a single injury...

...and meanwhile, cars are mowing down pedestrians and bikers, and young men are getting shot every other day south of downtown.
Glad to hear you're free from this supposed scourge, though.

A customer crashed and went to a hospital via ambulance. These things are dangerous, require no licenses to operate, and are being put into the hands of people who have never used one before.
The business is also unreasonable, and the owner hasn't taken any steps to address legitimate Safety concerns (which are not BS NIMBY concerns)
Screw him, and it's going to be funny when the $100K+ is ordered to be paid by a judge.
He did it to himself, Mr bootstrappy can complain about big Gov and his freedoms all he wants. But he choose this,
Huge Victory?

Serously?
I suppose you thought it was a huge victory for Nerd Free Schools when that kid you were bullying committed suicide.
This isn't a huge victory for anything, except Boston's War On Getting Priorities Straight.
RMV

Why hasn't the RMV chimed in on this?
I mean this is a new motored way to get around, you would think they have something to say. They did a few years ago with those mini motorcycles (and said they aren't street safe and ordered them off the street)
These things need to be either classified as a moped or bike or a car. Its somewhere in between.
I agree they shouldn't be on city sidewalks. I can't ride my bike on a city sidewalk, why should these things be any different?
Speaking of which

The Bike-Share System is introducing major new problems. Walking around the city this weekend I saw about 20 different tourists doing questionable things on these news options: Wrong way up a one way street, wrong side of a street, many riding the bikes on the sidewalks.
I'm all for a bike sharing program, but Boston isn't even close to being set up to accommodate these on our roads. And it's already showing weeks into the program.
