From the media that brought you Wussy Jacoby Ellsbury (remember last year?) comes the tale of Failed Carl Crawford. Don Martelli wonders if they're just a bit too eager to jump into a hate parade.
There have been quite a few busts along with some huge successes in the Theo era. The major reason that folks are thinking of Crawford as a bust is that the team chose to overpay him to keep him out of the Bronx. I look at him as a less-successful equivalent of "Wes Welker. Like Welker, Crawford was such a pest playing against us for years, but unlike Welker, he's having a sub-par year. And he doesn't seem to have Welker's ridiculous work ethic either. I don't expect him to work out to be nearly the failure that JD Drew has been.
Like Crawford, the major reason Daisuke is considered a failure is that he, too, was overpaid. He has actually had some great success, but pitches a style that can be painful to watch.
