The Orange Line is all screwed up again, a switch has failed on the Lowell line, the Framingham and Needham lines are delayed, people are getting kicked off Green Line trains, at least the ones with functioning doors, and riders of the 39 bus are standing helplessly as one bus after another just whizzes by them, too full for any more riders, which probably makes them the envy of 66 riders in Harvard Square, who aren't getting any buses at all.
Aaron Perrino summed up:
MBTA, you are the Jim Belushi of Public Transportation.
On the plus side, Greggy reports from Forest Hills he hasn't been stabbed or shot yet.
Andrew Phelps tweets Mass. transportation honcho Jeff Mullan has ordered the resignation of the guy who runs the T's Web site, because of the way it stopped working during yesterday's snow-packed commute.

Exactly, especially since the Boston Glob had a huge link spanning boston.com that looked like it was going to a news story ... when it actually landed on mbta.com.
No way the T could be scaled for their regular traffic and the deluge from the morons at the Glob.

Good God Mr. Secretary who cares about the Web Site when you are standing at a platform in minus degree weather on the Orange Line. How about firing the Secretary of Transportation, after all the buck stops there.

I had two 39 buses whizz past me not because they were full, but for no apparent reason at all. Guess: They were leaving Forest Hills off-schedule and bunched as usual, and decided to skip stops to make up time. Standing under the bus stop sign, and then in the road, waving a Charlie Card and making eye contact did nothing. In short, generic T incompetence and boorishness may be involved alongside the snow-specific incompetence.

Because buses do so much better in traffic, right? Those buses without space for passengers, even.
The T comes up with any old lame excuse to short-turn the E.

I know it's awful. The traffic is always bad at the intersection of Huntington and South Huntington I don't understand why it stopped them then. The worst part is they don't even step up the number of 39 buses to make up for the extra people trying to get on.

But I gave up on it after too many delays. Now I ride a bike, and the drivers of the #1 bus keep trying to murder me on the road.

I was pretty pissed for a large part of the day due to the terrible service on the 39. It took 1.25 hours to get from Angel Memorial hospital in J.P. to Brigham Circle in the morning. Then, on my way back I was waiting for 1 hour for the bus to arrive at Brigham Circle. Bus, after bus whizzed by me and about 30 other folks standing at the stop. Some buses were packed, others said "Not in Service" and were totally empty, and still others showed no message and were empty. Probably four buses went by in the hour I was standing there.
I cannot imagine what the excuse is for service being awful on every mode of transportation that the T provides when it snows or is cold. Year after year there are 1-2 hour delays on all of the Commuter Rail lines, on the Subway, and on the Bus. What's the deal? Winter comes every year, and it has since the dawn of frigging time! Metro Boston's public transportation system, in it's 110+ years of operation still cannot figure out how to deal with ice, snow, and sub-freezing temperatures. It's frankly pathetic, unacceptable, and will most likely always be this way. Oh well.
