Why, yes, that is the USS Constitution on a little harbor cruise today

. . . they take it out once a month so it can remain listed on active duty (and also to turn it around so one side doesn't face the harbor all the time). I think when they do that- they do stuff like promote guys and invite dignitaries aboard for the monthly harbor cruise.

There is no truth to that myth that the Constitution has to go out to be recommissioned or to keep her commission. The ship IS commission and will not lose that status until the decommission her...which will never happen because of her legend status.

The ship, however, does go out multiple times a year. Twice to promote over 150 sailors to petty officer, once for the Fourth of July, once for her birthday in October, once for Armed Forces Day, and a few others.

If you notice, she never goes out from December through March. The weather is horrible and losing a ship of that status would be a very bad thing.

it is true though that they do it to turn the ship. They're all turnaround cruises for even weathering.
