Boston Police report arresting six men, ages 20 through 46, on a charge of enticement of a person under 18 after they allegedly tried to hook up with some online girls who turned out to be police officers.
The six - two from Boston, four from suburbs - were scheduled for arraignment today in Boston Municipal Court. The Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports that five showed up for arraignment; an arrest warrant was issued for a Bellingham man who failed to appear in court.
They were snared in BPD's latest sting aimed at alleged minor-seeking men. The DA's office reports:
Boston Police officers posing online as females under the age of 18 were contacted by each of the defendants throughout yesterday afternoon and evening. Each of the defendants agreed to meet the officers – whom they believed to be a teenage girl - at and around a downtown hotel to exchange cash for various sex acts.
Each defendant described the clothing he would wear and provided his phone number. When officers spotted the defendants, they moved in and called the given phone number. Each defendant's phone rang when called by police, and each defendant was taken into custody.

I'm not really a fan of this type of police work.

So...these guys should diddle your daughter or sister or wife or mom? I mean, whose side are you on? How else do you propose LEO's catch these scumbags?

People have philosophically pondered the ethics of the justice system since humans have had one. While I'm personally fine with this practice for these particular cases, it's totally understandable that some other people could think this counts as entrapment, or a surrounding gray area.

How young are your wife and mom that they'd be possible targets for internet pedophiles?

Is that his mom, sister, daughter, etc. aren't capable of deciding for themselves who they would like to diddle with ... or not.
They need a MAN to make those decisions.
I get the daughter bit - so long as the daughter is underage. Otherwise, if you can't trust your wife, get counseling or a divorce. If your mom is picking up men on the internet, MYOB.
I was always confused about that

The person on the other end of conversation was not a minor. Is the law written to cover that?
I am all for busting these guys. They need a reality check, big time.

Does anyone really think there's something wrong with a 20 year old meeting a 17 year old? They're peers for Chrissakes. A handful of 17 year olds are even college students and surrounded by 20 year olds. You can call a 20 year old guy a "man" and a 17 year old girl a "child", but in my experience they're usually about the same maturity level wise.
There's also a double standard

I don't think anyone would be nearly as outraged if it were a 17 year old boy and a 20-25 year old woman. It would be more of a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge, that lucky kid."

I started dating the man who is now my husband of 22 years.
He was almost 22. I was 17. (yes, I was in college AND in the US Navy!)
If a 17 year old (like my son) is still an "innocent child", how will they be able to function at 18 when they are legally adults???

Anybody given an age by someone on the Internet and actually believes it without question needs a slap upside the head. Yeah, right, the age on Match.com or whatever is accurate and the picture is "recent". Was the cop posing as a teen girl even female?
Btw.....
