By adamg on Sun, 01/22/2012 - 12:12pm
The T Riders Union and Students Against T Cuts are organizing a rally outside the State House tomorrow in advance of a hearing on the T's proposals to slash services and raise fares.
The rally starts at noon on the steps of the State House, followed by a march to the Transportation Building in Park Square for the 1 p.m. hearing.

Can I get one each with the Revolutionary Communist Party fist on them? I collect them.
Now I'm Tempted ...
I want to print out a big sign that reads "Big Dig Debt" and attach it to the giant back pack in Harvard Station.
Even my kids have written letters to our state rep and state senator ... just because you can't vote doesn't mean you can't write and let them know how much this sucks!
Nice buttons except for...
No layoffs. Why not lay some people off?
And I don't think cuts in The Ride would be a bad idea. Clearly, The Ride is out of control.
These are the Workers of the
These are the Workers of the World Unite! people - they can't very well support layoffs.
Polly want a talking point?
Standardized all-purpose reactionary talking points != reality. Please try again.
Mitt Romney Likes Layoffs!

Not that people who are laid off can contribute much to the economy anymore ... or provide the services they did before? Ah yes, but the Paulturds have the answer: Imaginary Robot Bus Drivers!
Former token sellers?
I don't know how much excess employment there is at the T. The one thing that sticks out is the many former token sales staff that are lingering around. A few are helpful, but a lot of them just seem to sit in the former token booths and stare at the wall. I guess they're just going to slowly depart via attrition over the decades, which is kind of sad. Maybe they can phase these types of folks out and hire more people to keep the trains running on time.
And beyond protesting...
...whether you will be at the rally or not, everyone who gives a hoot about actually resolving the situation with MBTA's finances should 1) contact their legislators to voice their opinion (phone, e-mail, letters are all good), and 2) should give a good read over this study/report from Mass INC. that has perhaps some of the most level-headed and realistic proposals I have yet seen!
Otherwise, if we just protest against the hikes and the cuts, we may somehow avert crisis for now at best, but we will wind up with another not long down the road.
Roslindale's cuts
Both Route 40 and 50 (among others) will disappear completely under scenario 2:
