Not to sure how I feel about this.
One one hand its a hoot. Between this and Boston T Crush (a similar site), some of the pics are priceless. And yes I do admit the T has its fair share of 'colorful' people. Maybe if people knew that they were watching them, they wouldn't be apt to do stuff on the T like fall asleep, clip toenails, look like ya just rolled out of bed...
But the other hand it is an invasion of privacy.. Yes even in public spaces. However, in this technology age where just about every cell phone is a camera, its just unavoidable. AND people are photographed everyday, all day without being noticed. Security Cameras, ATM machines, traffic cameras. Of course, most of these images never make it to the internet (unless its newsworthy.. i.e. The lady at Broadway who tried to go up an escalator in a wheelchair).
I've been a 'victim' of one of these style sites. I was on Boston T Crush until I asked to have the photo removed. Not because I was angered that someone took my picture (I was actually flattered) but I got tired of people going "hey you look like that guy from Boston T Crush". It doesn't bother me to be photographed unknowingly, as I said, it happens all day, everyday.
But as far as the lady who fears for her life. Um, that's the issue with doing such things, you automatically become a target. I'm on a few of these 'Facebook' groups that are similar and they ALL experience this (threats, fear for their life). Its just how the cookie crumbles. Something that starts out as something funny between friends now explodes into a life of its own (and cannot be controlled). This is why its best to proceed with caution on posting stuff online, you don't know where it will go and how it will end up.

This didn't just "happen" to her. She caused it. She started it. It's ALL her fault. Of course it can be can be controlled. It only exploded after she lit the fuse. She wants the attention when everyone laughs and says how clever you are for making fun of other people. And now she's whining that someone wants to kill her and her family. Then dont put the shit up on FB you dumbbell.

I don't need a website for that. Who hasn't seen the whole public on public transit?
Making fun of others...
By whyaduck

is never "fun" for those who are the butt of the tease, in this case posting pictures of obese, scantily clad, drunk, and/or less than attractive folks on a public website.
It is sad that this chick does not see the harm and hurt she is doing to others. I understand that anyone riding the T is fair game as it is a "public" venue. There is a difference, however, in taking a person's picture with the intent not to post the same on a website that basically makes fun of the person and taking pictures of folks to post on a website in order to make fun of them and to potentially ellicit cruel remarks from those viewing the pictures.
For example, she posts a picture of a obese man with the tagline "frump" and a woman's fleshy back, sans, shirt that ellicits a lovely comment: "looks like a flabby mess."
But, hey, just having good old fashioned light hearted fun, right?
I agree

If she would just admit that she DOES intend to be mean or have her followers be mean I'd be slightly more OK with it. Pretending its just a good time shows she never matured past being a 'mean girl' in high school.

Karma is a bitch.
When you decide to make other people your source of amusement, they won't always take kindly to it. And if you're not woman enough to stand up and take it in return, then you shouldn't be doing it.
If you aren't willing to attach your real name to something, or at least a pseudonym well-known enough to eventually be tracked to your real name, then you have no guts and you shouldn't do whatever it is you plan on doing. Sooner or later, someone - probably the folks you made fun of, but possibly just another crackpot - will threaten you. That's how life works, Erika, and if you didn't know that going into this, now you do.
Anybody who reads my blog can find out my actual name and what town I live in. From there, it's easy enough to look up my address or phone number. And if I published something and I wasn't willing to live with that, then shame on me.
So, Ericka, bottom line? Too fucking bad.

If she doesn't want the negative attention that she herself has inflicted upon others, then she should take down this Facebook page. Regardless, it's ridiculous to threaten her with violence.
You would have thought publicly making fun of overweight people, the elderly, people who dress differently because they don't have a lot of money or people who seem a little mentally unstable would have been something she would have grown out of in high school.
Taking photos of people who look a bit outside of the 'social norm' or who are behaving in such a way is one thing, but mocking them is another.

Is that the majority of the photos on the Facebook page aren't even funny. She has basically accumulated pictures of minorities and mentally ill/down on their luck people and made a horrible attempt to make the pictures funny with one-word captions such as "Classy" or "Albert". I fail to see how a man who looks like Albert Einstein, or a woman wearing a winter jacket and a warm furry hat funny.
If Erika actually posted the funny things, would I feel differently? Maybe. But at the present time she has just accumulated pictures of everyday people who she thinks look different than her and her friends. Apologies that they aren't wearing some knee-high horseback riding boots and leggings.

Anonymity
By anon
Thu, 09/27/2012 - 10:10am
or the perception of anonymity is a major cause for what seems like an tsunami of people behaving poorly and rudely in our society. America has become a nation of strangers, many people don't know their own neighbors, often work, entertain themselves and shop in locations far from their homes, which means the old adage that people behave themselves when they're around people they know or who they might encounter the morning after [so to speak] often no longer applies. Being inside an SUV [preferably with tinted windows], or behind a keyboard or phone seem to be the preferred locations for this obnoxious behavior. But most do it because they think they can remain anonymous, and then their true nature comes out, which they usually must mute or hide completely in our PC obsessed culture. I suppose for many of these people it's a release of pent-up frustrations in their life. I'm not excusing them, they're of course still aholes.
People who simply comment or post something others may disagree with do not qualify as being a real 'troll', as long as they are reasonably on point and civil, but that word 'troll' has been co-opted by fanatics and is now used to refer to anyone they disagree with.
This [B-word] needs to her private info published online. BADLY needs to be taught a lesson, as do anyone enabling her. If I ever caught her in the act, I would stand by and do nothing.

But seriously, this girl is a dolt. It reminds me of "overheard" but obviously these things aren't heard, and there is a huge difference between being loud and being yourself. Sorry, but we have control of what we say, and in a lot of cases, we have no control on how we look. Erika has a nasty case of the high-schools.

But what this chick is doing isn't even Street Photography, which in many instances is candid.
Whats she's doing is just a mean spirited voyeurism. And judging by the pictures, not even done well.
It's more along the sideshow appeal of Isanyoneup, who I believe is now in some legal trouble. I'm sure he's been threatened too.
I'll echo what others have
By JF
Thu, 09/27/2012 - 2:45pm
I'll echo what others have wrote before me. Humans of New York shows respect for its subjects. In most cases, the subject knows they are being photographed or knows about it after the fact, giving them an opportunity to ask to have their picture deleted. None of them are asleep or obviously trying to hide their face from the prying lens of a nosy photographer. None of the pictures are cheap shots or gotcha moments that happen to capture good people in a bad moment. None of the captions are mean or insulting. You should walk away with a sense that the photographer likes their subjects and you should, too.
Humans of New York is an example of some of the best in amateur street photography, whereas someone posting random pictures of drunk, disadvantaged, sleeping, and otherwise non-complicit subjects on Facebook to poke fun at is the worst in junior high bullying. Perhaps Erika should stick to Formspring.

From Humans of New York:
This is not a fashion blog. Nobody cares if you think the “dress is too big,” or “the pants are too short.” I choose to put people on this blog because they are unique, not perfect.
If you have a negative opinion of anyone in these photographs, just keep it to yourself.
Everyone has a heavy load to carry in life. Don’t be someone who goes around adding to a person’s real problems by pointing out their inconsequential ones. There is a place for honesty among friends. But that place is not the comments section of a widely-read blog.

From a basic Google search:
No one wants to be secretly photographed at their worst on the T, and if you don't get that then try switching your cellphone for an actual camera and see how many pics you can get when it's obvious what you are doing.
