Man dies in Roxbury fire
The Boston Fire Department reports a man died in a fire at 104 Winthrop St. in Roxbury.
As is standard procedure, Boston Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office will join the BFD investigation.
The fire, reported around 9 p.m., went to five alarms.
Fire erupted through the roof. Firefighters were ordered out of the building.
About 30 residents were displaced. An MBTA bus was brought in for temporary shelter as the Red Cross assisted residents in finding places to stay tonight.
One firefighter was transported to a local hospital for evaluation of a heart condition.
The department estimated damage at $1.1 million.
A cat died despite resuscitation efforts by firefighters.
