Police: Man critical after doing a back flip off the Fiedler Footbridge
State Police report finding a man who plunged 50 feet off the footbridge around 2:20 p.m.
Witnesses said the man was leaning his back against the concrete wall on the east side of the footbridge - which connects the Esplanade with Beacon Street - when put his arms out and appeared to do a back flip up over the wall and down toward the roadway below. The man did not land on Storrow Drive itself, but rather, plummeted farther down to the Berkeley on-ramp, which at that point is lower elevation than the main line. The distance he fell was an estimated 50 feet at least.
State Police say the man, still unidentified, is in critical condition at Mass. General. He's black, apparently in his 20s. He wore jeans, a dark shirt, black socks and black sneakers. Anyone with information about his identity or who saw him on or near the footbridge can contact State Police at 617-727-6780.

no idea who this guy is, but...
... a few guys in their early twenties, maybe late teens, were doing parkour moves on Somerset Street on Saturday. All weekend, during the rally on the Commons, I saw skateboarders and parkouristos in the area. Some were being followed by photographers.
At least it's not an MIT frat
If this accident happened at an MIT frat, imagine all the finger-pointing we would get to participate in today.

With that said, it's Boston Common or the Common, not the Commons.

"Commons" is definitely a trigger word for me. I find myself correcting strangers on the street now.
Out-of-towners
Funny story from this weekend: some of my relatives and their friends were in Salem on vacation. I stopped by to visit and have dinner with them. I drove to near the B&B they were staying in. When they asked where I had parked, I said "alongside the common" and they said "the where?". I said "the common...across the street". "Ohhh, the park!".
