Blade-hoarding Mansfield man charged with threatening president's life
A Mansfield man with a large weapons collection faces a federal charge of making an online threat against the president, the US Attorney's office reports.
Andrew J. O’Keefe, 28, allegedly "posted a threat on an FBI website stating that he planned on killing President Barack Obama" on May 13, the US Attorney's office says:
On May 15, 2015, law enforcement officers attempted to interview O'Keefe regarding the posting; however, O'Keefe refused to speak with officers outside his residence. A search warrant executed on O'Keefe's residence and vehicle recovered over 100 weapons including swords, double-edged knives, hatchets, spears, an air gun, and two laptop computers.
O'Keefe, scheduled for arraignment this morning in US District Court in Boston, now faces up to five years in federal prison.
According to a report in the Sun Chronicle, O'Keefe allegedly left "a tip" on an FBI Web site that he had "a really good plan" to kill Obama. He allegedly included his Social Security number in the message.
The Sun Chronicle adds that police had to use a taser and a beanbag gun to subdue O'Keefe last fall when he "swung a 4-foot medieval sword" at them.
Innocent, etc.

O'Keefe sounds like he
O'Keefe sounds like he probably cares a lot about ethics in video game journalism too.
Would love to see somebody
Would love to see somebody subdued with a bean bag chair.
Sigh, I think I need a coffee injection
Fixed, although, yes, I, too, would like to see somebody subdued with a beanbag chair. Guess we'll have to settle for soft cushions and the comfy chair.
The man is quite obviously
seriously mentally ill, maybe paranoid schizophrenia. It's another example of the abject failure of our mental healthcare system, and laws regarding people requiring psychiatric care, so they can't harm others, themselves, or become victims due to their illness. Another obvious factor, many if not most things like mass shootings, etc., is the involvement of psychiatric drugs that are well known to cause errartic, even homicidal and suicidal behavior, in especially young adults. NONE of these issues are being seriously addressed.
This gets brought up by
This gets brought up by someone literally every time any crime happens.
Assuming this kid is schizo, what he was prescribed drugs but didn't take them or refused? You go on to say then that psychiatric drugs could have been a factor, so you're actually saying nothing at all other than blaming "the system."
Repo Man
Duke: The lights are growing dim. I know a life of crime led me to this sorry fate... And yet, I blame society. Society made me what I am.
Otto: Bullshit! You're a white suburban punk, just like me!
Duke: But it still...hurts..
Duke: But it still...hurts...
Otto: You'll be all right, kid.
*Duke dies*
Otto: Maybe not.
What I think
is you associate my comment about psychiatric drugs with the 'tea party' and rightwing lunatic fringe. I am neither, relax. But my observations, regardless of who else sats similar things, are perfectly valid. We do have a very serious problem with mental heathcare and laws surrounding mental healthcare in this country, and there is avoidable violence and tragedy as a result. Then, the lunatic fringe on the left and right knock each other over in attempting to capitalize on these tragedies.
O'Keefe is diagnosed bipolar and has had numerous interactions with police and courts in the past. His father was trying to get him committed because he says his son is abusing various substances and acting, well, crazy.
Please explain
What magic drugs work for these diseases every time and do not have debilitating side effects? Just because you think that such drugs exist, please name them.
You're responding to my post above
A) I don't think there're any 'magic' drugs available, NEITHER did I imply it.
B) My point was and is that popular, heavily prescribed psychiatric drugs have TERRIBLE side effects. Example: Ever wonder why so many mentally ill people hopped up on drugs are fat, often obese? It's one of the bad side effects...massive weight gain, water retention, etc. Another horrible side effect for a substantial number, especially young adults, is suicidal and homicidal thoughts. There are multiple other nasty side effects for these drugs.
Some psychiatric drugs, good example, Adderall, are GROSSLY over-prescribed, are popular as a street currency. I was at an ATM machine the other day, two dudes just out of county jail (I knew this by their uninhibited conversation) were talking about how one of them sweet talked his doctor into getting a script for adderall. But he was mad it was for generic (I assume he is on Masshealth, and pays next to nothing for drugs....sorry, medicines; the healthcare industry dislikes the D word). They were roaming around, trying to find a drug store that would fill it. He was then going to sell the pills for profit. Yes, shocking, I know. Evan and Jake at fill-in-the-blank nice, middle class suburb and school do the same thing.
