This makes even less sense than when they sh1tcanned McDonough because he actually expressed some opinions about the team. Orsillo is not the reason ratings have slipped; it's the 3 last place finishes the last four seasons. (Assuming they don't overtake the Rays or O's)
Callahan & co. talked about this. One of them, either Minnihane or Tanguay thought McDonough was too big time now to come back.
Then someone brought up Meterparel, so they went into the next ad break by playing his classic "ssss" home run call, back when his signature line was "see ya later", but he lost track of the ball.
Orsillo calls a good game and has a lot of chemistry with Remy. No idea why they would fire him.
If they're worried about the ratings slipping, maybe it's less about the announcers and more about how this team has been turned into a depressing circus whose only goal is to bleed every last dollar out of its fans.
There has always been ads in the Red Sox broadcasts, but they seem to have gotten much more frequent and obtrusive. I have been watching less and less because there's less baseball (which I like) and more ads (which I don't). I enjoy watching baseball and I would watch even when they're doing doing well in the standings.
Not everyone thinks like me, but enough may to account for some kind of ratings slip. There's only so much that people will take.
was so obviously a clone of the great, ridiculously versatile, and apparently too-candid-for-Sox-ownership Sean McDonough. But I eventually forgave him for that, and came to admire his very smooth, solid, well-researched work, even if I found some of the goofier late-inning banter with Remy occasionally grating.
Dave O'Brien is a worthy replacement, but I'm still really curious to hear the backstory behind this surprising change. Was he unkind at some point to Dombrowski? It clearly would be grossly unfair to hang the NESN ratings slide on him.
Just about money? He's a local guy (Melrose native, lives in Smithfield, RI); you'd think that the prestige of the job and his local ties might trump a fatter national offer. It's a baffling move, given what we know right now.
(I did not know until today that Don is short for Donatangelo. Cool name, dude.)
Thanks for the memories, Don, and best of luck. I don't expect you'll have any trouble landing something lucrative, and, I'm hopeful, satisfying enough to eventually salve the sting of being ditched for no apparent good reason.
Your employers are souless money grabbers. Behind the Fenway facade is an operation that after selling everything else will start selling player piss in between innings. (Get your hologram on a Big Papi piss bottle for $25.99.)
You get out with your pride and you'll land somewhere better.
Not having cable, I know very little about Orsillo, but I'll really miss Dave O'Brien on the radio. I hope they can find someone decent to take his place.

Remy?
..and it could be that some people don't like the fact that the Sox celebrate a degenerate that enabled a killer.
..and it could be that some people don't like teams that lionize a racist...Tom Yawkey.
The Sox and their lack of morals is disgusting.
- Go TO Blue Jays!
- Go Teams that don't name their address after racists.
That escalated quickly.
That...I don't know how you found any of that out, but...alrite then.
Gonna miss Don
I would assume he's been offered a national gig, NESN couldn't be dumb enough to let him go. Actually, they could have been.
In terms of people connected
In terms of people connected with the Red Sox in the news, Don was WAYYYYYY outdone by Curt Schilling today.
Maybe Don
Can take over Curt's Little League analysis gig?
Wrong guy
They should lose that "Dawg" person.
Remember when they hired Don
as the copycat voice of replaced Sean McDonough. Is there a copy cat voice for Don? Sean maybe?
No problem
Connecticut School of Broadcasting should have any number of anodyne replacements ready to go whenever NESN needs another. #MissingMartinAndWoods
Martin and Woods
The gold standard...or am I just old.

Dave O'Brien
According to a Mike Lynch tweet referenced on bostonsportsmedia.com.
Well this sucks just as bad....
....as when they got rid of the "Way back, WAY back" guy on the radio broadcasts...what was his name? Trupiano?
I'm hoping this is because Orsillo got a national high paying gig somewhere.
John Wasdin
That call lent itself to a great nickname, "Way Back Wasdin."
This sucks

But
"Sweet Caroline"!!! Who cares if we're losing 11-3 and ten games out of fourth place? So good! So good!
Can't stand watching Sox on
Can't stand watching Sox on tv when every 5 seconds is an ad. So, for the most part, I've stopped watching.
Hit the nail on the head

Orsillo
Unless Orsillo has a new job and therefore told the Red Sox, I suspect they are saving money.
ORSILLO??
Why is Millar around town at this time????
Orsillo annoyed me at first, as his every aspect of his style
