but why obsess over the Back Bay? Why didn't he also fly it over BeaconHill, downtown, financial district, waterfront - seaport?

You shouldn't fly a drone within 5 miles of Logan. That includes nearly all of Boston.

If any plane is that low then buildings better duck.

You need to realize that the near future is going to have drones and aerostats whizzing around so much you'll feel like you're in a malarial swamp.

Besides, how else can we find out what roof decks people sunbathe nude on??

because it makes the Federal Pound-You-In-The-Butt Prison go easier, if you relax.

People operating aircraft have to follow FAA regulations. Most individuals don't know all the reasons why the regulations, and all the situations in which regulations might apply for good reason. And, in an emergency, actual competent professionals might rely upon others following regulations.

The FAA is being pretty sensible in their balanced response to hobby drones. Don't let random freeloaders screw it up for hobbyists, or cause an accident.

I'd be concerned about injury and property damage. It's easy to lose control of some of the low cost drones and have them fly out of range of the controller, or be carried away by the wind, and crash into someone or something. The drone used for this video was stable, and both the drone and the controller had great range, and was flown on windless days for the video, but I can see how it could all get out of hand. I wonder how many drones are sitting on rooftops, with exhausted batteries, out of range of the controller, carried there by a sudden gust of wind. The owner wouldn't even know where the drone was, let alone recover it. Maybe send another drone up to look for the first one?

Much of this reminds me of what you'd see in a real theatrical movie, and now people with a drone and a Gopro can do the same thing. All those aerial scenes that big movies start with are soon going to seem kind of blah, since everyone will be doing that and it will be no big deal.

This video is awesome. It reminds me how much I love Boston except for the winters and the corruption within the city and state that most people keep a blind eye to!
