Former deli worker charged with installing spycam in restroom

Brookline Police report arresting a former worker at Zaftigs on a charge of "photographing an unsuspecting nude person" for the camera found in the handicap restroom at the Harvard Street deli.

Police say Rogerio Sores-Fernandes, 38, of Allston, installed the camera in August of last year, when he worked at Zaftigs.

Sores-Fernandes was arraigned in Brookline District Court today after turning himself in, police say.

Innocent, etc.

This is awful. I love Zaftig's food. I have had great service every time I have ever been there. I normally go there about once every six weeks or so, usually before or after a movie at Coolidge Corner, but this story really creeps me out to the point where I don't know if I'll be back anytime soon, if ever, and that really bums me out.

this could happen at any public restroom. It's not like the cleaning checklist includes a radio-frequency sweep for unauthorized surveillance devices.

Eh..... It's awful that this happened but it's one of those things where it could happen really anywhere. It just happens that this one got caught. I'm not a huge fan of this restaurant, but if I was, it wouldn't stop me from going there. My guess is that a privately owned small business isn't going to do a background check on a low-wage employee and even if someone passed one, with the advent of smaller, more affordable cameras, I'm sure this crap is only going to get worse. At least it wasn't on meerkat.
