Hoax call sends firefighters rushing to the South Boston waterfront looking for man trapped in a duct, only he wasn't

A series of fire crews rushed to Fan Pier off Northern Avenue around 4 p.m. when a 911 caller said he was the new owner of the restaurant at Louis and had gotten trapped in a duct under the building.

Firefighters methodically searched the building and basement for the man - whom the 911 operator told to tap loudly on the walls if he heard any voices. They were getting ready to break out a "thermal imager" that can detect heat sources - when 911 got another call alerting them that the supposedly trapped man was, in fact, in an apartment in Charlestown.

EMS was then dispatched to the apartment to convince the caller to come in for a bit of observation.
