New England One reports that WHDH's Janet Wu has left the station, leaving WCVB's Janet Wu our only on-air Janet Wu. Channel 7's Wu will continue teaching at Emerson, but has started doing some reporting for a New York station.
What's the story?... re many families here from China or descended from families from China have had their names reversed that their family name is first? Or is that backwards?
A. "Janet" is not a Chinese name. There are no Chinese people whose family name is Janet.
B. Janet Wu is an American. Born here, and all.
Make it easy on yourself. Accept people's names as they present them, without trying to figure out if that's "normal" for some hypothetical culture they may belong to.
How on earth does one confuse WHDH with WGBH? Especially someone calling herself "Hubgal?"
Now a real old-time Hub Gal might be excused for confusing WHDH and WCVB, because old timers will recall that Channel 5 once had those call letters. Or the perennial confusion over which channel carries CBS and which is NBC (I still get confused).
Of course this actually brings to mind a thought - why doesn't WGBH News snap up Janet Wu? She's actually quite well educated and would fit right in with the likes of Braude and Edgar B. Herwick III!

Clearly overqualified for them and not a good fit any more.

WGBH's and our loss. She was
WGBH's and our loss. She was an intelligent reporter and also did a huge amount of work for area charities.

But that takes our Impostor Shouting game away
Every time Janet Wu the Newer comes on and annouces who she is, we yell 'That's not Janet Wu!'
