The motorcyclist was beloved NESAD/Suffolk professor Paul Andrade. He will be terribly missed.

I tend to agree, although it doesn't seem likely. A cyclist dies in an accident and it's front page news everywhere, but it seems I can barely find any news on this incident. I suppose there are a lot of MC guys who give us responsible ones a bad name, and it's tough to overcome that.

I'm going to leave aside Markk's hopelessly weird attempt to troll the bike folks but I do think that it's probably a numbers issue. I don't know how many motorcyclists were killed in Boston last year--I know a guy died near Franklin Park a few years ago-- but I don't get a sense that it's an overwhelming number. Ditto mopeds--I remember the shock seven or eight years ago when the doctor was killed on Mass Ave. while riding a scooter, but we pretty rarely hear about fatal moped accidents. But there are more people on bikes and more killed--close to a dozen this year, I think.

There is far more media coverage of bicycle deaths than motorcycle deaths so your perception is that there are more bicycle deaths. That doesn't make it so. You have about doubled the bicycle deaths for the region this season.

if you're claiming that there has been an equal number of motorcycle and bicycle accidents. Otherwise maybe take a deep breath and maybe try not to turn a tragic accident to your own personal vendettas.

Its missing here whereas if a cyclist died, Boston's Internet would melt down. At least Adam has made a post about the victim while other media is pretty quiet.

There have been far more deaths where cyclists were run over, the murderer drove off and didn't even stop, and walked away completely free claiming utter incompetence.

There was a fatal accident a few weeks back in Sullivan Sq, but no other vehicles where involved. I remember the Mass ave doctor getting hit by the truck on the moped. All very sad events. I wonder if any details on what happened will come forward. I'm left to assume the cab was being a cab and did something aggressive and hit this guy.

That was the saddest story. The doctor was by all accounts an extraordinary person. Incredibly it was actually like eight or nine years ago, but these things stay with you...

Or the usual left-turn in front of the biker. If you think you have enough room to make your turn, you probably don't.

my assumption is that the MC was going straight, and the cab cut across to make the left under the bridge (possibly assuming the MC was going to turn left?). From witness accounts of the scene, I assume he got sideswiped, went down, and was run over by someone in the adjacent lane.

All speculation of course, but the way the bike is laying, it seems one of the only theories that would make sense.

Aggressive cab also likely too, I don't know what it is with them and MC's. Have had one bang a left directly in front of me that I had to lock em up, and just yesterday one was basically trying to run up the back of me as I was making a right off huntington.

One thing is for sure, is that cars and trucks generally have little regard for the safety of folks on Scooters, Mopeds, and Motorcycles. I always get alot of the "hey, move over, you're practically a bicycle" crap all the time. Even today on my way to work a Budweiser truck was playing chicken with me, trying to see how close he could get to me. He flipped me off after aggressively passing me. I've had a guy get out of his SUV and yell at me that I dont belong on the road, that i should be on the shoulder. I was doing nothing except sitting at a stop light.

What they don't realize (or care about) is they are all protected by a steel cage while the rest of us are out in the open. I find that the Boston area is much worse about this than parts of the country that are accustomed to motorcycles/scooters. Even head up to NH and they are always looking for motorbikes on the road, as its much more common. Motorists are even friendly to me up there.

I've been trying to find information about what happened. I unfortunately passed through that intersection heading back to Southie in what had to be just minutes after it happened because there were no emergency vehicles on scene yet. I drove by with inches on the motorcycle and Mr. Andrade and I can tell you that It shook me up because there was significant head trauma and it was very apparent that he was deceased. My thoughts are sincerely with his students and family. Such a tragedy. And on a side note, that whole intersection is indeed a mess and extremely scary to navigate through.

I too passed by within minutes, and the scene was just horrific. I will never get that image of what lay upon the roadway out of my mind. ( you know what I'm referring to). My thoughts and prayers to all who love him.
