JP residents could one day go to AA for beer and wine
AA Market, open for two months at 138 South St., is seeking a license to sell beer and wine.
Owner Marcia Peguero Mojica today asked the Boston Licensing Board today to defer acting on her request until after she makes her her case to the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council at a Sept. 8 meeting.
"The market is looking to become a little niche in the neighborhood, her attorney, Carolyn Conway, said. Although there is a packie nearby, Conway said AA would have "a totally different clientele" - people looking to pick up some beer with their dinner essentials.
"We've been asked mostly for beer" by customers, Conway said.
A representative from the mayor's office said AA has been " a fine addition" to South Street.

Meanwhile,
alcoholics will presumably continue to go to AA to help them avoid beer and wine.
That's the joke

AA
Here I was thinking about American Airlines...
Yes! More options for South St residents!
This would be great! I live about two blocks away and would much prefer to go to AA than Fernandez Spa. Fernandez is kind of....gross. However, they DO have an awesome bodega cat.
What's gross about Fernandez?
What's gross about Fernandez? They have a great selection.
Question
Why is the mayor's office allowed to weigh in on such decisions? Seems to me that is an implied abuse of power.
Neighborhood liaison?
They may be referring to the JP neighborhood liaison who is in touch with all the different neighborhood groups in JP. Neighborhood liaisons work for the mayor.
And probably
ties in with the JPNC, which I personally find is a crock.
So you don't care what the mayor thinks of developments?
Just leave it all to the city councilors?
No!
He's only allowed to be a mouthpiece for whomever got him elected.
Marionette, not Mayor!
I'm not sure how much light
I'm not sure how much light industrial space is available at the moment but what JP could really use is a small brewery(other than Boston Beer Co). Or at least hopefully the JP Beer Garden gets off the ground eventually.
