Secretary of State pays a visit
By adamg on Tue, 10/13/2015 - 9:07am
John Kerry is paying a little visit to the Hub. Last night, he had dinner at Davio's - while his SUVs and police escort waited outside. This morning, Dasha Rojkova spotted him ambling about the Back Bay, again accompanied by a heavy security detail.

Who is the woman with him?
Who is the woman with him?
Well the man to the left...
I am pretty sure is Dave McGillivray, Boston Marathon race director (appropriately attired).
Did they have trouble parking?
nearby the restaurant, or just went for a walk?
Was wondering who that was
Had just left the office when this entourage came by and we both figured it was some foreign head of state in town to visit his kids at college or something. Pretty much an entire block of police and SUV's.
Secretary of State gets quite the security detail compared to other cabinet members - although if you are in line for the Oval Office - even if distantly General Haig - probably makes sense.
Julie Bishop
The Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs
Oops - replied to the wrong comment. Oh well.
Thank you!
.
Why should being nthin line
Why should being nthin line for the Oval Office mean you need extra security?
That isn't the issue
The issue is that the Secretary of State gets high security because they are a big effing international terrorist target.
Particularly when walking about with foreign dignitaries.
That Climate Change thingy?
That's so for the hoi polloi:
Billy Bulger was right about one thing. JFK stands for Just For Kerry, not John Forbes Kerry.
Using Billy Bulger To Point Out Kerry's Flaws?
That's, um, stupid.
Billy - Ran rampant corruption in the MBTA and other state agencies. Used political power to protect his mobster (re: murdering/serial killer) brother, grafted as much as he could off of the state university system before being stopped to some degree.
Kerry - Talks too much and bores everyone into caving into the interests of the United States because they just want him to stop talking. It is a form of enlightened torture.
Both men are very, very smart and for a long time Billy was batting 1.000 in this city while Kerry would roll out of Biba legless on a Thursday. (Trust me, I offered him a ride home once because he was so far gone as I was coming out of work nearby).
However, I'll take a few SUV's polluting protecting a senior cabinet official over some 16 workers taking 4 years to rebuild Andrew Station any day.
Uhm, lookup irony and get back to us....
If Billy Bulger is (correctly) calling him out, then... Well, you probably wouldn't get it anyways.
Using Kerry as an example to get others 'caving?'
Yeah, like he did for Iran, right? Letting Iran keep their American hostages AND their frozen assets AND get a nuclear bomb is in the interest of the United States? Only one getting tortured are the Americans in Iran that Kerry wouldn't force them to release. I will agree he is boring.
If you think Kerry is smart, you must regard Dubya as a genius. After all, Dubya got better grades at Yale.
Does Your Ollie North For President Shirt Still Fit?
Have you said the word Benghazi more than 5 times in the past week?
Do you still have that picture of the Ross Perot'92 sticker on your 89 Ford Tempo?
Do you still chuckle to yourself when the word OBummer pops into your head?
John Kerry went to Yale, speaks French like a native, was a US Senator and is now Secretary of State. I can guarantee one thing, he is smarter than you.
Speaks French..Of course!
Yes, we covered that already; try to keep up. He went to Yale, so did GW Bush. Dubya got better grades than him.
Well of course he does! What better way to surrender to Russia, Iran, and everyone else than to do it in French.
Ignorant
Because there's nothing that better qualifies you for the nation's top diplomatic post than an attitude of blustering pride in one's own ignorance of other cultures and languages. Have you considered a career in the foreign service?
'murica! Fuck yeah!
SUVs hold a lot of people
Like buses.
What makes them unsustainable is single occupant driving, not when they hold six people.
Or when someone who we disagree with politically
Is driving, or being driven in the SUV. That makes them def unsustainable.
Not to rational scientists
The break-even point with public transit is three people.
Keep on **ucking that chicken, though.
Didn't ride his bike from home?
down to Davios and back? Perhaps give the new bike lane pylons a try on Mass Ave?
Well, maybe he is less of an old fool now, or at least the secret service has sense to keep him from doing it.
Did he ever ride in Boston?
Pondering more on it, I recall times he has been spotted on bike are not in Boston, so he has some sense. Too bad because it would be funny to see his friends on Hubway bikes.
Do you really care to know?
I can answer that, but it seems you are just circling around in your own stew of obsessions and may not hear the answer.
badum-TISH!
It's always - wait for it - a vicious cycle with this guy.
Meanwhile.....
Meanwhile.....
I'm still trying to absorb the armed home invasion last night on Shelby Street in East Boston while I'm reading about Kerry visiting Boston.
Oh
Uh..huh. This has to do with what exactly?
Junkies
Junkies, of course.
I mean, that Kerry had to have taken some oxycodone for that nastily broken leg, right?
Plate ... shrimp ...
Speaking of which

Allocation of police resources?
Maybe if a shit-ton of cops making sure no dog lifted its leg on one of his SUVs would be better suited as patrols in high crime areas, is how I'm reading it.
Oh
So the cops should have just been staking out that home? But instead they were on detail with the Secretary of State? Certainly a false dilemma however you slice it.
However, no, that street isn't a "high-crime area" worthy of constant patrol, certainly relative to other spots areas of the city. This is one of the reasons I'm wondering what exactly a crime in A7 has to do with Kerry being in Boston. It sucks that someone was targeted in a home invasion, but John Kerry has nothing to do with it.
I didn't say I agreed with that post...
...just interpreting it.
Maybe I'm missing something
Maybe I'm missing something, but that photograph sure looks like it was taken in daylight. What would it have to do with a crime committed at night?
Oh wait, I forgot, there's no statute of limitations on stupid know-nothing axe-grinding. Carry on!
