could you make it just return to whatever page I was on when I clicked the login link?

my most common reason for logging in is to comment on a story I'm reading. Taking me back to the page I was just at would be the most efficient.

I'll take a look.

I don't know what the login timeout window is, seems like maybe two days or something, but the only times I ever have to log in is if I want to comment (which is rare) or if I want to view only new comments on a post (and even then, navigating those new-only comments isn't terribly simple).

Also, Adam, I don't know if this is something you have any control over, but when I browse on my phone, if the comments start going too deep in the hierarchy (eg - reply-wars between two people), it eventually jams everything up on the righthand side of the screen to the point where I get a super-tall page with single letters continually word-wrapping on the right. It seems to do this in the regular browsers as well.

One way you could handle this would be to have a default depth level for varying resolutions (customizeable in user properties) that says "Any comments deeper than this level are hidden", and then hide the comments that are too deep, with an Expand All button at the bottom of the page. Shouldn't be too hard to code up, but I don't get the impression that you do a lot of web development.

Thoughts?

Regarding the logout timeout window: ideally, I would personally love it if there were a way to just stay logged in - or at least not make the timeouts happen so frequently. Barring this, a decent alternative would be to have the site return you to the page you were on; as mentioned above, it would work well for the less-frequent posters.

Or something similar.

Hey Adam, any chance you could move the "My Account" link back to the top of the page too? It's a bit inconvenient on mobile to have to scroll all the way to the bottom to log in.

+1000000

took me a few minutes to figure out how to login via my phone.. (which btw, new layout seems to work better on the phone now)

I suspect this change has broken lost password recovery.

Trying to reset a lost password doesn't seem to work because the admin page prompts for the old password, which of course you don't know. It seems to have lost the special case for recovered passwords.

in addition to making change requests, consider donating some change or larger amounts in show of support to this site. Is $2 a month a fair amount for active users? $5? Please do not delete this comment. I think we all need a reminder of how frequently we use this site as a news source.

While you're at it, could you come over and take a look at my printer? Some of the colors are slightly askew.
