Today's fun fact: Harvard motto was not always 'Veritas'

The Harvard Gazette reports that while Harvard adopted the Latin word in 1643, it soon ditched that for a more ecclesiastical "In Christi Gloriam" - and later "Christo et Ecclesiae."

It was, of course, everybody's favorite Boston phrase maker, Oliver Wendell Holmes himself, who got the U to get back to basics, with an 1880 poem urging its re-adoption.
