Not to worry,Jeff Kunher will still be keeping the flames of stupidity, misogyny and homophobia burning bright over at WRKO.

And if you miss the Oxycontin fueled rants from El Rushbo, listening to financial supporter of domestic terrorists and famous overeater Howie Carr should give you your fix of moronic chatter.

Stupid misogynistic homophobes have a right to be heard too

Just as I have a right to call Kuhner and Carr two of the lowest forms of pond scum on this planet.

Carr's existence on the radio alone proves that there are still plenty of old folks left who still have cigarette stained photos of Louise Day Hicks on their kitchen walls, next to the JFK portrait.

If the right of free speech meant you get a radio show, I think more people would have radio shows, don't you? And I think Rush would still be on WRKO.

Alas, the right of free speech doesn't have much to do with having a radio show. If you do have one, the right doesn't guarantee you get to keep it. Duh.

To denigrate JFK.

They have a right to speak. No one has to hear it.

They have a right to not be arrested and jailed for what they say.

There is no requirement to provide them with airtime or representation of their views by their elected officials.

Or how about KKK saying Blacks should go back to Africa or Nazis promoting death camps for ... anyone "impure." A right to free speech where governance is concerned does not mean all speech should be spoken in all domains of life.

The theory that letting people who need to hate spread their gospel allows them to vent and so releases some of their viciousness is full of hot air. People of hate will remain people of hate until a life change (i.e., a homophobic priest or Senator caught "with his pants down"). Bob Bauman, Republican from Maryland, nasty homophobe, then becomes a Gay rights supporter when he's found to engage in sex with another man. Hate is too valuable an emotion and tool for its practioners to just give it up willy nilly.

So I have no problems with radio stations telling people who spread the gospel of hate to go away.

And they all can do their little circle jerk on AM radio.

They have a right to speak out. Absolutely nothing requires them to be heard.

EDIT: Damn, tape beat me to it above. I gotta stop focusing on work so much.

One rumor I've seen online:

Kim Carrigan and co-host-to-be-named-later take over morning drive.
Kuhner to take over Limbaugh's 12-3 slot.

I like Kim Carrigan and the Money show she has with the other guy whose name I can't remember.

If I'm on the road for work I'll try to tune into their show.

I'll be happy to listen to her show in the morning. Kuhner is just awful. I can't believe he has enough of an audience to warrant prime time slots.

Kuhners one of those nut jobs that will disagree with everything and anything the President or any Dem would say. Even if it's right. And yes, the left has the same type nut jobs (see MSNBC, etc).

When I was in middle school, I fascinated to find out that WRKO was transmitted through the loose parts (foil, racks, etc) and/or heating elements of electric ovens and speakers of hung up phones at friends' houses in the lower Lexington St area on the Mall side of Burlington. One girl I knew swore that her brother's orthodontic headgear would pick it up too. WRKO's three transmission towers stand in the middle of Great Meadow, near the Burlington Mall, and random electronics in within a mile or so would pick up its broadcast.

Reminds me of that Partridge Family episode, where the radio transmitted through the girls braces thus "ruining" the Family's performance.
(memories of crap TV shows of my youth)

Carr claims Subaru as a major sponsor. Given the car maker claims to be so supportive of LGBT rights, why would they advertise on a show that openly mocks the gay community every chance it gets?

great news!

Got to agree with DVD on this - how can anyone sponsor Howie Carr's show? Do they not want gay or immigrant customers, or are they so sure that no self respecting minority (or anybody under 70 years old) listens to Carr? I'm sure the bean counters have done their job, and trust that any revenue lost by Carr is offset by his sycophants purchasing power, but on the other hand, I'm betting that if the next time he's on the radio (like this afternoon) and he says something offensive about one group or another, if the pressure were applied to the station, Carr could be ousted and back on the far right hand side of the AM dial in a heart beat.

if Howie will say anything about Limbaugh being dropped. I get the impression he doesn't like old Rushbo much - especially when people call Howie a Rush imitator.

(But I'm not wondering enough to actually turn on the show, though)

but given the RWNJ response to boycott attempts lately, I'm afraid it would make Carr even more popular. I'm sure Carr's listeners are not Suburu buyers and Subaru will eventually figure that out.

Until then, we just have to settle for Carr's advertisers being lipo surgeons (that he gets discounted lipo from for ad time) and hair replacement places (where Carr gets discounts on plugs for ad time). You see, Carr just doesn't tailor what's left of his morals to just lining the pockets of killers, he likes to scream about illegals getting free stuff while his hand is out for free stuff more than anyone from another country. Also, his constant cries for blood in the Tsarnaev case indicates that he seems to have no problem paying white American killers while screaming for the blood of Muslim ones and also shows that racism is still alive and well on WRKO.

Wow, you certainly know a lot about Carr.

I admit to listening to his show sometimes. I appreciate his knowledge of Boston and the connected who's who within the political scene. Not many people can match his knowledge of some of our pols history. He is obviously opposite of you on certain issues and you seem offended by his show - but you listen!
I can disagree with someone poltically and on social issues but still listen and not get so worked up about them.

I haven't heard him insult people or say anything racist, although I'm not listening for that. I am sure if he said something blatantly offensive and racist, he'd be yanked from the air, no?

But you do seem to listen regularly and it's curious why you do. You must like to get outraged, it's the only reason I can think of.

Same with the Herald, do you visit there regularly?

Please do.

I'll be waiting. I am busy for part of the day but when time permits, I'll check back.

Thanks.

Mainly because I honestly could never get over the fact that he's so blatantly stupid and racist and that people actually take him seriously. Also, I used to spend up to ten hours a day in a car and could only listen to so much NPR and sane people.

Maybe you've never heard the segment where Carr and his Brungilda Sandy gleefully read police reports regarding Latino offenders and each item is punctuated by a car horn version of "La Cucaracha"? Nope, no racism there.

How about how Carr always like to call gay marriage "fake" and claim "those aren't real marriages anyway"?

Old, stupid and morally bankrupt seem to still be in style over at WRKO.

Carr was the only one out in front when Matthew Denice of Milford was killed on his motorcycle.

That was by an illegal immigrant who was later convicted of manslaughter by a motor vehicle, motor vehicle homicide while driving drunk, reckless endangerment of a child, leaving the scene of an accident which caused personal injury or death, failing to stop for police and driving without a license.

The PC orthodoxy in this state (Deval, WGBH, The Globe, etc) gave that one a good goddamn leaving alone. as George V. Higgins would say. Because it doesn't fit the narrative.

When all the farm animals start chanting "four legs good two legs better" in unison, I like to hear an occasional objection.

The only reason Carr cared was because it was an illegal immigrant. If it had been one of his Wellesley buddies who hit Denice, I'm sure he wouldn't have said jack shit.

by indicting every single man woman and child who comes to this country seeking a better life as "worthless layabouts". Which is funny when you consider he hasn't put in a solid day's work in years other than finding new ways to fleece seniors out of their money at those slide shows of Whitey.

He was on the failed experiment called WMEX but it would be a great show to have on WRKO for the midday slot. I have the feeling he's not socially conservative or controversial enough to be on the same station as Jeff Kuhner and Howie Carr.

While they're at it, can they drop Mark Levin and move Coast to Coast earlier in the evening so I can keep up with my alien abductions, crop circles, and chemtrails?

No, the problem with Dennis Miller is that the conservative talk radio audience has no idea who Roland Barthes or Ludwig Wittgenstein are.

since right-wing talk clearly isn't working out very well for you in Boston, how about returning to a Top Forty format?

Most syndicated radio shows are offered on a "barter" basis: the station gets the show free, but has to play whatever commercials come with it. Limbaugh is different; his stations have to pay for the show. Other things being equal, that makes it less desireable. But in his heyday, Limbaugh commanded such immense ratings that stations would pay almost anything to get his show.

Times have clearly changed. He is off the air in the tenth biggest radio market in America. He may find another station, but if Entercom (owners of WRKO) weren't willing to pay his price, why would CBS (owner of WBZ) or iHeart Media (owners of WXKS) be any more willing?

up
Voting closed 0

iHeart owns Premiere Networks, which syndicates Limbaugh's show (among many others). Hard to see WBZ breaking up their day by running Limbaugh, and I believe 1200AM switched over to Bloomberg Radio.

WRKO is either financed by a group that has very little interest in making money or have an agenda that blinds them from reality. To drop the most popular and controversial hosts in America (Limbaugh and Levin) and also replace the morning host, Jeff Kuhner, with a has-been TV anchor (Kim Kerrigan) and a sports loser reading the news, is suicide. Then they put Jeff Kuhner on at noon to compete with Limbaugh, promising Kuhner that he may go national. This may be suicide for Kuhner as well. I think they blunted his career. You can't beat Limbaugh. I have gone to the internet to continue to listen to Limbaugh. And I liked Kuhner! They even replaced Mark Levin with a guy who has helped me understand how to buy and finance a house (Dave Ramsey). Is this stupidity, or is there more going on. Not generally a conspiracist, I find this, nonetheless, very suspicious, especially when an election is coming and these voices are very powerful and influential. The media today is not to be trusted. It's time to wake up America!!
