Bad weather in New York forces whale of a plane to land at Logan
By adamg on Thu, 07/14/2016 - 6:30pm
Dan Santry watched an Air France A380 - the world's largest passenger plane - roll across the tarmac at Logan Airport this afternoon after it was diverted here due to bad weather in New York. They remain an unusual sight in Boston because Terminal E is still being fitted with the two-level jetways needed to quickly unload the two-level planes.
Lots of other planes were also stranded at Logan, as Jocelyn shows us (if you look carefully, that's the Air France tubby on the right - see it larger):

that is a BIG airplane
I know the answer is actually "engineering and physics", but I still wonder what kind of magic they use to get an A380 off the ground.
Call me Ishmael
Thar she blows!
If you ever ant to fly on one...
This site just launched showcasing airlines and destinations that fly the A380 - http://iflya380.com/
I've been on one
Dallas to Sydney (and vice versa). If I remember correctly, there are 11 seats per row (3 window, 5 middle, 3 window) in economy. BIG airplane.
Size Queen
.
Also Emirates
New York to Milan. Bathrooms were nicer than my one at home. Not that that's saying much.
Yup!
Flew that big bird recently-Joberg to Paris. Didn't know it was the biggest in the world but knew it was the biggest plane I had ever been on. The wings themselves seemed to stretch to a different time zone. I had my doubts the thing would be able to lift off but it miraculously did and lumbered through and aloft the air like a big ship.
Have to say it was altogether a pretty smooth flight and landing!
British Airways is actually
British Airways is actually going to be bringing the A380 to Logan this winter.
Ugly
With all due respect to the technical feat of building something that size that can actually fly, it is a astonishingly ugly aircraft. A whale indeed.
