Bay Staters have a special reason to Czech their privilege

Some people in what most of us would call the Czech Republic have compiled a long list of reasons to use Czechia instead, including:

Czechia might sound strange to some people the first time they hear it but so do numerous geographic names derived from foreign languages that are commonly used in English, such as Idaho, Utah, Massachusetts, Lithuania, Zimbabwe, Belarus, Croatia and also (former) Czechoslovakia.

Ed. pedantic note: Idaho isn't from a foreign language; it was made up.

is simply the phonetic English language spelling for what one of the native tribes called this place. This is why it looks kinda strange. My last name is also an Anglicized phonetic spelling because 99% of people would find the original non-Anglicized spelling incomprehensible.

Massachusetts and Utah come from the indigenous Massachusett and Ute languages, respectively, which are not, in fact, foreign languages. English is far foreign from a North American perspective.
