His name was Michael

Old South Church reports a man was found dead on a step on the Dartmouth Street side of the church this morning:

Rev. John Edgerton remained with the body to keep vigil as the ambulance was called, throughout the time the police and medical examiner were present, and until the body was removed.

We learned that his name was Michael and that he was 57 years of age.

Old South Church is working with Ecclesia Ministries - common cathedral on an outdoor memorial service at the site.

Thank you for this. I walked by his poor body this morning as the scene was unfolding and I suspect I probably also walked by Michael while he was alive. Thank you also to the Reverend for being with him. RIP Michael and condolences to those who loved you.

The City is going to spend $100 million on a new bridge to the South Boston Waterfront and zippo for a new bridge to the Long Island homeless shelter. Keep pushing the poor of Boston.

It was only a matter of time since that shelter closed. The streets around DTX and the Common have become shanty-towns at night. We've had a mild winter up until now, but it was only a matter of time before we lost a human being.
Forget politics, we cannot have people living outside in Boston in the winter.

Seriously! I worked in DTX over the summer and I could not believe what I was seeing with homeless heroin addicts - and most of them were heroin addicts - setting up camps in DTX and literally shooting up in doorways - we watched outside our office window one guy shooting up his penis. Especially the CVS across from the DTX train station. And I have no idea why it was DTX and the Park Street area in particular that they came to - more people to panhandle to, or is there a methadone clinic nearby? Oh my GOD. There were at least 20-30 people in sleeping bags every single day. We even witnessed a violent fight between three people who had been panhandling in front of the train station for weeks in the middle of the day. The city is prepared to give millions in tax credits and build a HELIPAD for GE to come here, yet they can't fund another shelter or more rehab beds??? On top of that, DTX is trying to recruit people down there to buy new condos. I don't know how they are going to sell that area as desirable again with people shooting up in doorways around there.
