It is all enough, the only time I ever turn on TV news is for a weather report when a storm hits. New on TV is outdated by the time it airs. But what else are the networks going to air before the 8pm prime time hits, Seinfeld and Big Bang re-runs? They prob have no other choice
maybe instead of the same 8 minutes of weather and then 4 minutes of real news recycled every 30 minutes they could do a solid hour of news like they used too? back in the day the news started at 6, you had real news stories until about 20 past the hour. this was followed by 5 minutes of weather and 5 minutes of sports. the second half hour was more news usually with some extended news pieces and human interst stories. usually ended with some type of entertainment news.
now? if you miss the first 4 minutes you have missed most of the news. the rest of the time is spent reporting on viral videos and khardashian updates. if it 6:05 or 10:05 I don't even bother turning it on.
45 min of infotainment, packaged national stories, and celebrity gossip is the path to profitability. People don't want the news, they want to be afraid and entertained. Are you not entertained?
...The 7pm news will feature cute young reporters "Live" from in front of the T station or Police station. So we can hear the BPD and MBTA press releases read to us with a live scene in the background.
TV news readers (few are "reporters") are pretty much worthless. No matter what time they're on.
The saturation of local news is only Monday through Friday. For news junkies looking for weekend local TV news, the offerings are sparse. It has always surprised me that on weekends when 4,5,7 and 25 are showing network programming during what would be news time on a weekday, NECN decides to show infomercials much of the day. What a lost opportunity to develop a following.
I am convinced that they all have staff dedicated to monitoring each other, as they ALL (4, 5, 7, NECN, Fox local) go to their barrage of car dealer, furniture and carpeting commercials at the exact same time. I now DVR just 30 minutes of one of them, and once you cut out the commercials, it's about 8 minutes of actual news and weather. (And the news is usually just reading the headlines from the day's Boston Globe)
Pretty much every news operation hires consultants, who recommend the same stuff they recommend to all the other stations that hire them. It's no coincidence newscasts look more and more alike.
Let's just have Jadianne exclusively...on for eight to ten hours per day talking about...um...ah, whatever. Who the hell cares what she's talking about??!!!!!
Matter of fact, make it pay-per-view if you want. Here's my credit card info. Just keep it on file. Because, well, y'know... ;-)

Really Hope NBC Dumps WHDH
........Can't happen soon enough. Crap news always interrupting network programming for insignificant stories.
"Hope"?
I thought the dumping was happening for sure in a few months?

...or reports on the latest Survivor, American Idol, etc. (any show that's shown on that network)
Sorry kid
But that's not profitable.

They should just have 24/7 news
with a little window playing non-news programming.

NECN misses its opportunity on weekends

I Don't Always Get News
But When I Do, It's From Universal Hub.
We really only need Jadianne....
