Orange Line shut in search for guy who might have tried to escape police by running on tracks in Roxbury

Around 10:40 p.m., Boston and Transit Police officers rushed to the area of the Jackson Square Orange Line station when a suspect driving a stolen car got out, climbed up an electrical tower, then down to the station.

Service in both directions was halted and power turned off as Boston and Transit officers went down on the tracks towards Roxbury Crossing in what turned out to be a futile search for the suspect. One train near the station was held on the tracks, with doors closed, as Boston officers searched it for the suspect; as cars were cleared, the passengers were escorted to Jackson Square.

Around 11:15 p.m., officers began leaving the tracks, but evacuation of the train continued for another 15 minutes before power was restored and service resumed.

Yeah, he definitely went down on the tracks. We saw him jump down right in front of our subway car. Looked like a young man around 17-18.

I really hope you thought to call the police to tell them that and didn't just post it here.

Also heard on the scanner that the suspect carjacked someone in order to get the vehicle. Either way this guy had some serious cajones going down on the tracks like that. BPD reported that while they were trying to get the tracks shut-down, a Commuter Rail train flew under the tower he was perched on. Guy's lucky he lived long enough to get away.

I assume the "electrical twoer" is one of the overhead supports for the Amtrak wires, which carry 25 kilovolts, which could easily have resulted in a fried suspect and a messy cleanup job for Amtrak's wire crews.

A legitimate reason for service to be screwed up!
