Well, I suppose with all the bathtub Madonnas in Boston,
it's about time that Baphomet got his due, too.
Adorable!
There is no Dana,
only ZUUL!
LOL
OMG this was my first thought...
"Are you keymaster"
Are these guys permanent
or just for the summer?
Just the summer
They did regular changing of the guard things in Downtown Crossing last summer.
Make them permanent!
The kiddy fountain is cute and it is fun watching the kids - or dogs - play in the fountain. But it still doesn't have the punch that the pool at Millennium Park in Chicago has of the massive videos of residents who smile benignly and then spit out a giant rush of water. There is a bizarre and devilishly fun quality to kind and sweet faces puckering up and "spitting" a rush of water into the fountain.
That required a much larger fountain to accomplish the effect. While Boston can't pull off that kind of animated fountain these figures however can convey a different but equally powerful message. To me they can stand as figures protecting the kids who play in the fountain. Some are fearsome (the dog is sweet) but all warn the fell spirits of the world that this is a public place where kids (and adults) are protected and are safe.
