Arlington Police report arresting Gannon Kemper LeBlanc, 23, on a variety of charges after he allegedly tried to get into a Lee Terrace home Wednesday night.

LeBlanc, police said, was dressed in a black suit and black tie, and was packing a loaded .38-caliber gun, a stun gun, a knife, black leather gloves, rope, duct tape, a ski mask - and an energy bar - when he arrived at a Lee Terrace home around 7:15 p.m. and demanded residents there let him in.

He was wearing a black hat marked "FBI" and had a flyer he tried to use to convince the residents of that home to let him in. Police say the family refused and instead called 911. Arriving officers found LeBlanc at a nearby bus stop on Massachusetts Avenue, police say.

In a statement, Police Chief Frederick Ryan said investigators believe there was a connection of some sort between LeBlanc and the residents:

While the investigation is in its early stages, Arlington Police do not believe this was a random act. The residents may have been targeted by the suspect, and we do not believe that the community as a whole was in danger.

LeBlanc is scheduled for arraignment today in Cambridge District Court on charges of impersonating a police officer, possession of an electric stun gun, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, police say. Also, the FBI has joined the investigation, police say.

WCVB reports the connection was that LeBlanc worked at a credit union and had obtained customer records.

His defense attorney said the items in LeBlanc's backpack were intended for camping and he was knocking on the door to use a bathroom.

Innocent, etc.

"His defense attorney said the items in LeBlanc's backpack were intended for camping and he was knocking on the door to use a bathroom."

Just passing through Arlington, on foot, on the way to my camps site. I didnt bother to bring matches, a tent, sleeping bag, water, etc, but I brought zip ties, a padlock, a stun gun, and a revolver.

Thanks for the heads up. Appears he works for the MIT Federal Credit Union and thus has access to the financial information of many people reading this. And they're closed tomorrow..

That's the guy I sat across the desk from when getting my mortgage approval. Oh boy!

I do have to say he was pretty good at his job.

I hope it is the same guy or you are seriously screwing with someone's life by publishing these photos.

I didn't post anything that's not already out there. If it's not the same Gannon LeBlanc from Michigan, the other guy should be alerted to update his MySpace page.

It's possible this impersonator has scammed other people in the past, so seeing what he looked like over the years might help other victims recognize him, which could help the MIT Police with their investigation.

Fortunately, this attempt was thwarted because the potential victims were alert, but that also means the charges brought against him will be less serious. If additional victims come forward, there could be more evidence to charge him with other crimes so he doesn't go on to hurt other people.

Specifically he's a "Senior Mortgage Loan Originator" (this from the MIT directory). Also WHDH says "Police said they also found four Post-It notes with names and addresses written on them. Prosecutors said three of the names were people who work at MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory. The fourth was an MIT professor." WCVB adds that he also had their salary info with him.

Really hope those of us with personal, financial and mortgage info at MIT FCU don't have to wait the long weekend for a statement about this.

I'm really curious. What the heck was he planning? Was he out to murder someone, or is he an overenthusiastic volunteer?

I've always been told to never trust someone with three first names, but three last names is something else.
