MassDOT goes a little loco

David Hutchinson snapped a photo of a former MBTA locomotive repainted as a MassDOT locomotive. It'll haul passengers to and from the Cape this summer.

Someone tell me they're not stealing from my car registration fee or gas tax money to pay for this. It's clear they can't manage the MBTA so they just find another agency to fund it and hope people might not see it as another boondoggle.

The seasonal Cape Flyer service is profitable and pays for itself. It's why MassDOT only operates it seasonally to stay in the black.

Roadway maintenance and plowing costs "steal" (your logic) from the property tax and income tax dollars paid by people who don't own cars.

As stated elsewhere, though, this is actually profitable because people will pay good money to escape your special little summertime cape traffic jams.

The Cape Flyer runs from South Station with stops at:
Braintree
Brockton
Middleborough/Lakeville
Wareham Village
Buzzards Bay
Hyannis

It is set up to connect with the Steamship Authority ferries.

You can also bring a bike, which makes it easy to get around the Cape.

The T is part of MassDOT. They run all the passenger trains in NE except for Amtrak.

Which links in with Metro North in New Haven.

There is so much horse power and hutspah that those machines have. It is nice to
see it in blue and ready to run this summer.

Thank you, train techs and those who run 'em.
