Who says Southie is changing? The L Street Cumbies is open again

Inside the L Street Cumberland Farms in South Boston

Eileen Murphy brings the glad tidings that the L Street Cumberland Farms has re-opened after some remodeling.

Still, in possible deference to the changing socioeconomic composition of the neighborood, it now carries some new hot-dog toppings: Zucchini relish and something called Chicago Sports Relish.

With all due respect to such local stalwarts as Sullivan's, Chicago dogs are the best. They come loaded with half a produce section - tomatoes, pickles, chopped onions and semi-hot little peppers they call "sport peppers". And the relish they use there is a bright, almost fluorescent, green, so maybe it's a combination of the weird green relish and the sport peppers?

My guess is that it's just the neon green relish and they incorrectly combined sport peppers with the relish in the labelling.

We hit a Cumby's on the way home from a weekend in Maine on Sunday, and hubby got a dog with this relish. It's actually more like piccalilli than the neon green stuff, with chopped sport peppers and mustard added.

FYI, I went looking for this on Google Maps and it's actually officially at 628 E Fifth St, not on L Street.
