Apologies to registered users getting lots of notifications about old discussions

I did something with the site tonight that had an unfortunate unintended consequence: People with accounts are getting (sometimes lots and lots) of notifications about comments in discussions going back a few years (I got like 1,200 myself, so I feel your pain).

I know what happened, in hindsight, I shouldn't have done it (hindsight always being 20/20) and I won't do it again. Again, my apologies for wasting your time deleting them!

Comments

Somebody asked me to delete his or her account. I did, but since the person had posted comments in the past, I told the system to change the user name to "anon" rather than deleting all the comments.

Unfortunately, that alerted the notification module that there were all these "modified" comments that, gosh, people would want to know about and so it started sending out notifications, lots and lots of them.

In the future, should I run into this again (i.e., where somebody who has posted in the past wants their account deleted), I'll use another method to change the names on the comments so it won't trigger the e-mails.

At least it's not 1,200 tweets.

On another site I frequent, when someone requests their account be deleted, their username on posted comments gets changed to something like "deleted_12345" (i assume the number has some meaning in the back end). So, they remain unique usernames.

All is well Adam. Not like you sent a helicopter up to buzz the neighborhoods or suspended the Red, Green, & Orange lines at rush hour!

Can you move the login link on the mobile web page to the top of the page? Mine (Android something recent / Chrome) appears after the front page articles but before the ads and is exceedingly hard to get to one-handed.

How am I going to drink my beer in the car while commenting.

I also seem to get automatically logged out frequently. On Android I find I have to go back to the homepage to login.

As much as I adore Universal Hub, I don't want email notifications about post activity, so I set the system to disable it:
   IMAGE(http://www.universalhub.com/files/uhub215_0_0_1_1.png)

Click "My account" and then the "Subscriptions" tab, and select:
      DELIVERY OF NOTIFICATIONS
         IMAGE(https://elmercatdotorg.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/save-notifications.png)
Choose the "No" option and click "Save notifications"
      IMAGE(http://www.universalhub.com/files/uhub215_0_0_1_1.png)IMAGE(http://www.universalhub.com/files/uhub215_0_0_1_1.png)

After you disable notifications, you'll see this warning banner at the top of every story/article page:
IMAGE(http://www.universalhub.com/files/uhub215_0_0_1_1.png)IMAGE(https://elmercatdotorg.files.wordpress.com/2017/06/notifications.png)
   IMAGE(http://www.universalhub.com/files/uhub215_0_0_1_1.png)
While the warning does seem over-dramatic, it features a direct link to the notification settings page. To me, it's far preferable to receiving email message notifications.

Now, whenever I visit Universal Hub, I start at the tracking page instead of the main home page. This shows at a glance if there are replies or updates to any stories I've posted to, making email notifications pointless:

I can choose to read the updates first, or click the IMAGE(http://www.universalhub.com/files/uhub215_0_0_1_1.png) logo for the regular home page.
