I've been to about ten of these and they gradually grew more and more sparse. I think it went from 4 a year to maybe just one last year and it was pretty poorly attended towards the end. I had already bought tickets for the Saturday night session, which looks to be its last hurrah.

I know absolutely zero about the finances of this show, but if it was making any money (it was around for 18 years) you'd think you could sell it for something, rather than just close it down.

(I thought the same thing about Ringling Bros circus, but obviously there is no market for a slightly used circus....perhaps the same is true for a beer summit.)

Last time I went the band on Saturday night was a bunch of fat guys in Hawaiin shirts singing Jimmy Buffet songs to a room full of twenty-somethings. A fun time was not had by all.

I'm sure they brought in some extraordinary beers to taste, but I wonder if an event like this wasn't so necessary anymore. These days there are many places in the area to try a huge variety beer styles--local, national and international. Tickets are about $64 for a 3.5 hour session and a lot of standing in line. I'd rather camp out a a good beer bar.

Maybe it's a victory for advocates of good beer.

I know these events are popular (were popular?) but I never got the pay sixty bucks to try new kinds of beer thing.

When I want to try new beer I go to my local Craft Beer Cellar and make my own six pack (which is encouraged there) . They also have their own tasting events.

The local breweries have tastings right at the actual brewery too. More fun to me then going to an exhibit hall for the same thing.
