Israeli teen charged with bomb threats to Jewish centers in Boston area, elsewhere

Ha'aretz reports he has dual Israeli and American citizenship:

The suspect has lived in Israel many years. The army refused to draft him after finding him unfit for service. The suspect's motive is unknown, but police accuse him of hundreds of incidents involving threats to institutions around the world, including Israel, over a period of two or three years.

Seriously, maybe folks should feel just a bit better about all this? Maybe, just maybe, Trump or his supporters had nothing to do with it?

“It definitely was not vandalism,” Marisa Tarantino, general manager of the Washington Cemetery on Bay Parkway in Midwood, told reporters.

“The older sections, as the stones wear, they do fall over or are unstable,” she continued. “What we do is we lay them across the grave to keep them memorialized rather than taking (them) away.”

A police spokesman agreed.

It is WONDERFUL NEWS that there is not a resurgence in anti-Semitism in the United States. This is a good thing. I cannot fathom the mindset of people within my own political sphere who desperately want there to be, just because it says something bad about Trump. Because guess what? To paraphrase the President, "sometimes, it [says] the reverse".

Would it be great news if it comes out that someone is likely using the wave of anti-Arab sentiment in the country to drum up support for whatever "cause" this kid is behind? I don't see any good news here. People were still terrorized for months.

Separately, you're really spiking the football on what you feel isn't a rise in anti-Semitism. The rise is a completely separate component from these publicized incidents. A major strawman to say that the bomb threats were the increase in anti-Semitism in their entirety, and since a good portion were fake, then the rise was fake (as you seem to believe "there is not a resurgence in anti-Semitism in the United States"). All we found out today is one of the many symptoms was a false alarm.

Me:

I cannot fathom the mindset of people within my own political sphere [(the left-wing)] who desperately want there to be [a resurgence in anti-Semitism], just because it says something bad about Trump.

You:

[Y]ou're really spiking the football on what you feel isn't a rise in anti-Semitism. [...] But hey, since your guy Trump isn't tied to this, then it's all good in your book I guess.

YES! This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about; thank you for this perfect example. As a Jewish Massachusetts Democrat, if it looks like I am celebrating that what were thought to be major, scary instances of anti-Semitic hate crimes on the east coast turned out to be false, yes, absolutely, that is a good thing. I believe very strongly that targeted vandalism of a Jewish cemetery would be a bad thing, and am extremely relieved that it was a bystander's accidentally false report of the caretaker practice of laying down damaged headstones. I will happily "spike the football" at the lack of a hate incident.

I'm also confused at your insinuation that there's a "rise [in anti-Semitism]" that is "completely separate [from] publicized incidents". Are you basing your knowledge on UN-publicized, secret hate crimes?

The Washington Post said, on Feb 28th about Trump's comments:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/02/28/trump-is-repor...

President Trump seemed to suggest Tuesday that the recent bomb threats and vandalism at Jewish community centers and cemeteries across the country might be false flags, according to a Democratic attorney general who met with him. And Trump’s comments came the same day that one of his top advisers suggested the culprits could be Democrats.

So we have the vandalism of the cemetery. Turns out that didn't happen, it was staff laying headstones down. Then we have the JCC threat calls. Turns out some of then were a liberal ex-Intercept journalist trying to frame his ex-girlfriend, and the others were a mentally-disturbed dual US-Israeli citizen, not some cabal of red-hat-under-white-hood supremacy group. Would you rather there was a huge underbelly of race hatred in the US, even in liberal enclaves (more so than there are already)?

P.S. Trump isn't my guy, pal.

...thinking the comment was kinda self-explanatory.

Yes, Juan is a leftie dickhead. Thanks to him, there was a bunch of anti Semitic fear going on here among some folks...and blaming it ALL on Trump. Oh, and Breitbart, who was, ahem, Jewish. Yes folks, the noted anti Semite Andrew Breitbart was Jewish. The guy that wrote the so-called anti Semitic articles (there were two) is Jewish.
Maybe if you took it upon yourself to actually read them, you'd see that the anti-Semite claim against Breitbart is mostly made up leftie bullshit.

The Israeli? Well, he's anti- um, he hates, um, I dunno...

But, kudos to AG for posting it quickly.

Source? Sure. From the uber-right CNN:

URL here without hyperlink, since I suck at posting such things:

Even CNN proves you are wrong with your knee jerk reference to Trump.

..because that's what he is. A 19 year old POC in the same situation would only be referred to as an adult / grown man by the media, not a teen. This man shouldn't be treated any differently. Words matter.

After all, it's reasonable to expect a 19 year old to know that the bomb threats were criminal acts.
