Old Hyde Park nursing home to become apartments
The Board of Appeal yesterday approved a developer's plans to turn the former Parkwell nursing home at 735 Truman Parkway into 46 apartments.
The plans, by Nordblom Co. of Burlington, call for 62 parking spaces - a compromise between the BPDA, which wanted fewer spaces, and neighbors, who wanted more. Six of the apartments in the already gutted building will be rented as affordable
The project, already approved by the BPDA, needed zoning approval because the site is not zoned for multi-family residential use and because its zoning would have required 92 parking spaces. The proposed use is also denser than the site's zoning would otherwise allow.
Mayor Walsh and city councilors Tim McCarthy, Annissa Essaibi-George and Michael Flaherty supported the plan.
One neighbor rose to oppose the plan, saying it would ruin the peace and quiet neighbors enjoyed when the building, constructed in 1966, was a nursing home.

Ambulances ≠ peace and quiet
The assisted living and nursing homes I'm familiar with have a steady stream of "The Ride" and ambulances coming and going all the time. I bet these tenants will likely be no more disruptive than the good old days.
Ever been to Allston-Brighton
When a friend moved over to that part of Hyde Park, he learned something- there are a lot of Curry College students renting out that way. If they start renting in this development, there would be a big possibility that yes, there will be less peace and quiet. And I will note that I live near Roslindale House, so I know the level of noise elderly housing brings.
Yes, I have been to Allston-Brighton
every day for the last 20 years. It is really nice here!
What's your point?
By and large
Known as a home to college students and not known as a place to live if you want quiet.
