Actually the SJC had some weird ruling years ago where pleading the 5th can be considered an admission of guilt to certain crimes and could used against you as evidence in court proceedings.
As a student I can say this is a blow to the campus, Chancellor Motley provides unequal support and guidance as the head of UMB. He is visible on campus, provides open office hours, and takes concerns from student's and staff seriously. The budget problems at UMass are system wide due to the State legislature not due to any failings of the Chancellor's. It seems to me that the president should give up his million dollar office downtown to assist with the budget problems, shortfalls, and tuition increases not replace the Chancellor. I am ashamed that the board of Trustee's felt this was the correct move.
