When you're a pro player and you fall in love with Boston and then you get traded

Isaiah Thomas writes about getting The Call from Danny Ainge.

People had these signs they made, and I can still see them: THIS IS FOR CHYNA. WE <3 ISAIAH. That sort of thing. Then they did a moment of silence, the whole arena, in Chyna’s honor. And it was like … man. I just realized, in that moment, that I didn’t need the court to shield me. I didn’t need to block it all out, and pretend I wasn’t grieving. I didn’t have to be alone in this. The whole arena was right there with me. Honestly, it felt like the whole city of Boston was with me.

People say it's hard to play in Boston with all the scrutiny. Here's my observation:

You are athletes. If you play poorly it's frustrating for the fans but we know it's part of the game. It's forgivable.

If you have a bad attitude, that's not frustrating if you play well, but it is unforgivable and intolerable when you play poorly.

Play hard, hustle all the time and don't bitch in public. The fans will love you even when you suck and management will usually give up on you before the fans.

Best of luck Isaiah, unless u r playing the Celtics!

It's be a lot easier to come & play here if the weather didn't suck seven months out of the year.

Like Chicago, New York, Buffalo, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Denver, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver.

Golly gee, those cities really struggle to attract talent due to weather, right?!

I wasn't talking NHL. Elite NBA free agents like the sun belt. (And yes Lebron's return to Cleveland is a special case).

Vancouver has a Pacific Northwest climate (though they probably don't use that term in Canada). It doesn't typically get especially cold in the winter, compared to the rest of your list (especially the other Canadian cities).

remember the time he went and shot baskets with some kid that was shooting all by himself in a Cambridge park? I can't really picture David Price pulling over and having a catch with a kid. He will be missed.

We were during your time of grief and people that got a measure of your heart will always be with you.

Godspeed young man. And thanks.

It did feel like the whole city was behind him. And I hadnt' seen love for a player in Boston since David Ortiz, Tom Brady and Paul Pierce. IT just embraced boston. One thing that isnt mentioned often: when he got traded here he used to tweet "Hey what gyms are open? who wants to hoop". I almost got him to my gym, wishing I did!

... he will come back after he (eventually) retires. I think the Celtics management has made a big mistake, but what do I know.
