Zoning board approves plans to finance new synagogue, ritual bath in Brighton by building 70-unit apartment building
The Zoning Board of Appeals today approved plans to build new homes for Congregation Kadimah-Toras Moshe and the Daughters of Israel Mikvah on Washington Street and a seven-story apartment building.
Under the plans by developer Jeffrey Feuerman of Brookline for 101-105 Washington St., he will build the mikvah - a place for ritual monthly baths by Orthodox women - on some land to the rear of the property, then replace the current baths building with the new synagogue, then build the apartments.
Feuerman's plans call for a 70-space garage and 12 surface parking spaces.
The offices of the mayor and City Councilor Mark Ciommo supported the proposal, as did the Brighton-Allston Improvement Association.

Good for them, but I'm going
Good for them, but I'm going to miss that maple tree in front of the current synagogue. It's gorgeous in the fall.
Chronology
Just to be clear, things are not being done in the same order that the top post describes. The new mikvah will be built on currently-empty land behind the existing building before any building is razed. Then the old mikvah (101 Washington) will be razed and a new synagoge built in more or less the same spot (but with a larger footprint). Finally, after the new synagogue is ready, the old one will be torn down and the apartments built.
Thanks for the correction
I've gotten rid of the "then" that made it sound like there would be no facilities during construction.
A development
With a decent amount of parking.
