Blue Hill Avenue murder victim was 42, father of five

Boston Police have identified the man shot to death on Blue Hill Avenue near Brookford Street on Dec. 21 as Joao Alves, 42, of Rxobury.

According to a GoFundMe page set up to help his family with burial expenses, Joao "Johnny" Alves leaves five children, between 21 and 7, as well as two sisters.

He always expressed his concerns about the violence in the city and wanted to raise his kids away from it all. Johnny was always and I mean always there to help out a person in need young and old. He was a laid back giant with a huge heart. I ask that those who know him or knew of him support us in putting this gentle giant to rest

His visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Funerarias Multi Culturel in Brockton.
