Boston school-bus drivers don't like the heat, either

The Globe reports on another day of delays up to 2 1/2 hours for kids at local charter schools that started early and which rely on BPS buses for student transportation. BPS itself starts next Thursday.

This is why Boston needs an elected school committee.

the school committee would ... fire Transdev? Have Transdev fire the bus drivers? What is it that you think an elected committee would do that Walsh hasn't done?

It's be easier if Boston kids went to the school in the neighborhood they lived in. Less buses would be required. Problem solved.

BPS isn't even in session this week. This is strictly an issue with the charter schools that BPS is required to serve, all of which are required by law to be open to all Boston kids.

As for BPS, please, you'd be the first to complain about the cost of building all the neighborhood schools places like West Roxbury, Roslindale, Beacon Hill and the Back Bay - and downtown - would require if we really went back to neighborhood schools, because none of those neighborhoods have enough of them now (in fact, Beacon Hill and the Back Bay have none).

Without building any new schools; children living in close proximity to schools could have priority over those living further away, eliminating some need for buses.

When there are local schools available.

Think about it - make a map if you have to. The data is out there - census data, school data.

Come back with a more thoughtful proposal and people might listen. Parrot a talking point and it solves nothing.

That’s obvious. Children who do not live close to a school will have to travel a longer distance. I don’t need a map, I am not making any plans. If the bus drivers don’t feel like driving, everyone is screwed. You think about that.

That would be more appropriate solution, especially with the growing population and congestion of traffic is getting heavier.

...laundry list of complaints. I don't assume to know which claims are real and which are false but I laugh at their railing against MIT designed bus routes. Yes, let's not get computers involved and just let the same bozos who have been blocking the box at intersections across the city for decades decide where they want to drive (when they want to).

This doesn't happen in Brookline !!! But then Brookline don't have the powerful leadership of Pressley for 10 years making everything better, not to mention that school teacher councilor and Campbell and Wu train! Those extensions are so powerful!!! We can't have equity or school buses that run on time no matter what the computers say, until we have more women, more women of color, and more women who used to be men. I have a connection to MIT as well, but that doesn't mean I use computers to get my product to people on time. GIGO reminds me of my bestie Gigi, we had so much fun in the Azores. Besides, what's 2.5 hours late, do you know how far behind we are in global warming and planting trees in Boston??? Steve Murphy used to run a transportation company, this never happened when he was a councilor. That's why we need more bicycles lanes, to take traffic off the road and get Steve back on a bicycle, despite what people say about him and chewing gum, he has to keep up with that younger wife. Daddy has to ride his stationary bike or he doesn't get rewarded with his all natural Cacao nibs. Can't be too safe or healthy!

With less traffic Buses could run on time and people could get to the RedSox games faster. And buy more stuff, Tiffany is not getting any cheaper. I was in London once for Arsenal and they had conception pricing, I think it makes sense to only let people with money to afford it use the roads,(but free for bikes and those cute sharing schooters) and cute school buses half to a third filled with gorgeous future Lebowski achievers creating carbon in the name of equity. I wonder how much it would cost Elon to provide individual capsules from each future achiever's home in hyper tubes to the majority minority school of the computers choosing?

I mean, the MIT program worked wonders in eliminating segregation, right?!?

to flex his muscles by making a little kid miss school. They have BPS over a barrel and they know it. I hope the city fires them all.

The article doesn't say anything about drivers skipping work because of the heat.

Next week there's going to be tens of thousands more kids depending on these people - what if it's too hot then? They should just skip work? Pathetic.
