Fire erupts in Dorchester apartment building; numerous residents evacuated

Boston firefighters are at 3 Groom St. in Dorchester for what is now a two-alarm fire that started in the basement and then spread through a rear stairwell, the Boston Fire Department reports.

Firefighters led a number of residents to safety.

The department reports 12 residents were displaced and estimates damage at $500,000.
