Good news for Widett Circle fans who commute through Forest Hills station

Wild and wacky Widett Circle

Since 2015, Widett Circle fans who use one of the upper-busway routes at Forest Hills have been able to enjoy the permanent display of a banner headline about the industrial area on the last Boston Globe ever delivered to the honor box there.

Earlier this week, workers tore up the walkway where the box sat, as part of the overall re-do of the upper busway. They could have just tossed the box in the trash, but, huzzah, they just moved it closer to the entrance to the station.

that that's the one issue I need to fill a gap my current collection of Mallard Fillmore strips.

He's an anthropomorphic duck, you see, and also some kind of journalist, I think, and it's a powerfully ironic performance-art commentary on how conservative humor cruelly mines the trope of punching down on the powerless, I'm pretty sure.

Does the MBTA have rules and regulations about the placement of news boxes? Not that they enforce any rules.

Was trying to explain the concept of the newspaper honor box to an under-25 employee of mine- pointed out the real heyday of that was years ago when daily papers cost much less than a dollar- let alone the $2.50 it is now

Aside from the fact that everybody prefers to stare at their phones wherever they go, it would take 80 quarters to buy a week's worth of Globes from the machine.

Man, it's been SO long since I bought a Globe (or any newspaper) I had no idea it costs $2.50! I'm still thinking it's 50 cents. There goes the old saying "that and 50 cents will get you the Boston Globe. Except on Sundays."
