Gunfire followed by arrest in Cambridge

Cambridge Police report officers investigating multiple gunshots on Harvard Street at Washington Elms last night arrested a woman they say had ammunition in her purse.

Police say two cars were damaged in the gunfire, around 11:50 p.m., but that no people were injured. Police are investigating whether the gunfire was related to a brawl reported in the area about 30 minutes.

Multiple individuals in the area of the gunshots were stopped and questioned. One of the individuals - Abigail Riskey, 19, 265 Columbia St. in Cambridge - was asked to remove items out of her purse to ensure there were no weapons in her possession. One of the items was something heavy inside of a piece of cloth. Officers unknotted the cloth and observed a box with a pictured handgun and bullets on the cover. Upon further inspection, the box contained numerous rounds of 9MM ammunition. Riskey did not provide a license to carry ammunition or a firearm and was placed under arrest for Possession of Ammunition without an FID card. The ammunition and cloth were taken as evidence.

Anybody with information can contact police at 617-349-3300.

Adam - you should follow this one.

I'm interested to see what will happen to Ms. Riskey in the state with some of the toughest gun laws. We all know that tough gun laws only apply to people who follow the law. In order to bring on change, shouldn't the penalties reflect the "toughness" of breaking said laws?

Concealing 9mm ammo in the vicinity of a shooting, unlawful possession on multiple pieces of ammunition. Make it a mandatory year and see how many people will be willing to stash ammo for their scumbag friends.

If we want tough laws, we need tougher punishments too - otherwise its all lip service.
