Boston Acupuncture Project – a new non-profit whose mission is to provide affordable acupuncture in a group setting, as well as other forms of holistic health care – is opening the first community acupuncture clinic in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston.
Studies show evidence that acupuncture effectively treats health issues including PTSD, chronic pain, anxiety/depression, and addiction. Dozens of local doctors refer patients for acupuncture in order to better manage pain, stress, anxiety, insomnia and many other all-too common conditions, but hospitals and health centers often have long wait lists for acupuncture. Community acupuncture’s high volume, low cost model makes acupuncture more affordable and accessible for more people in a trauma-informed setting.
The Boston Acupuncture Project’s Board of Directors includes Bradley Dimunah, co-founder of The Vital Healing Project; Steve Kingsbury, owner of 2 community acupuncture clinics in the metrowest area; LaTeisha “Tj” Johnson, Boston native and soon-to-be-licensed-acupuncturist; Shoba Narayana, registered nurse and yoga teacher; and Angie Wolfrum, artist, activist, and acupuncture student at MCPHS University. The acting executive director and first acupuncturist working at the new clinic is Oren “Ren” Pilinger, a community acupuncturist currently serving on the Board of Directors for the People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture (POCA).
Boston Acupuncture Project, Inc. is part of the community acupuncture movement, which is working to make acupuncture care affordable and accessible. Acupuncture treatments are provided on a sliding scale, from $20 - $40 per treatment (plus a one-time new patient paperwork fee of $10). Highly-trained acupuncturists treat a multitude of health problems, including pain, arthritis, anxiety, insomnia, depression, digestive disorders, seasonal allergies and gynecological complaints.
The new Boston Acupuncture Project clinic is open 5 days per week, including evening and Saturday hours. The clinic is located at 74 Fairmount Avenue in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston.
