Police followed the sound of breaking glass to nab North End break-in suspect

Boston Police report arresting a Connecticut man for break-ins at a North End residential building early Sunday.

Police report officers responded around 3:05 a.m. to Fleet Street on a report of somebody climbing up a fire escape.

While en route, officers were informed that multiple calls were coming in to 911 that a person had smashed an apartment window while on a fire escape near the above address. When officers arrived on scene, they were informed by a victim that a suspect had just kicked through their apartment window. Officers entered the building and proceeded to the victims’ apartment but did not locate the suspect. Officers then heard the sound of glass breaking and made their way out to the alley behind the building adjacent to Moon Street. As they made their way down the alley, they could hear glass breaking and observed it falling from a fifth-floor apartment. The officers made their way up the fire escape and gained entry through the broken window. As they cleared the residence, they observed the suspect asleep in a bed. Officers announced their presence and woke the suspect. The suspect told the officers that he lived there but could not provide proof of residence, nor could the officers find any mail with the suspect’s name on it. Officers asked if the suspect was staying here with a friend but the suspect refused to answer.

Kevin Dean, 20, of the Hartford suburb of Bolton, was charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime, malicious destruction of property and disturbing the peace, police say.
