Runners forced out of the Marathon by the cold will finish the race on Sunday

2018 Boston Marathon 2.0 is a group for Marathon runners who just couldn't take the cold anymore last week but who still want to finish the race: They plan a second run on Sunday along the Marathon route, starting at 8 a.m. in Hopkinton.

No doubt this will be news filler for every station in town, and of course Lisa Hughes will be gushing about it way too much.
Will there be road closures?
Any word on road closures? I couldn't find anything at the city's website. I need access to Boylston Street on Sunday and I am not sure if the road is closed. No announcement. Not good.

This is very informal. Kind of like a very long fun run. Very, very long fun run. And probably not that much fun.
Just don't hit any pedestrians and you should be fine. And while your at it, don't hit any cyclists or other motor vehicles.
Do over?
The marathon has a do over? What kind of thing is this? You either finish it or you don't. I don't see why people's inability to endure a little cold weather should necessitate a "second chance". Man, I've turned into an old grump but this reminds me of one of those "everybody gets a prize for participating" things.
No, it doesn't have a do over
Should you click on the link, and then on "About," you could learn this is basically some runners who were disappointed they didn't get to finish the race and wanted to do that - but that there is no connection to the BAA or race results or anything. Some people just like to finish things they started for themselves, not for glory or prizes or anything.
Then why use the title Boston

It's meant for people who ran in the Boston Marathon last week.
As someone who ran and completed
three marathons, and also completed a 1/2 marathon in weather conditions just as bad (or even a bit worse) as those runners faced (and, yes, I had hypothermia at the end), I say "why does it matter to you?" And this was not "a little cold weather". The conditions were bad enough that 1/2 of the elite runner's invited by John Hancock dropped out.
Perhaps you never trained for a marathon? Well, it takes a lot of time and endurance. So I can completely understand that these folks would like to feel that they completed what should of been the end result of all that training.

Everyone loves to complain from behind a computer screen. I did run last Monday. I did finish, but I can personally attest to the fact that it was not "just a little cold weather" out there. If you'd like to experience something even remotely like it, I invite you to jump in the shower, then stand in a refrigerator for 3+ hours, while hosing yourself down periodically to make sure you stay good and wet. Let's also remember that if anyone visits a med tent during the race for ANY reason, even getting a little bit of Vaseline, the BAA's volunteer medical staff will check your vitals, and if they decide your temp is too low even if you "feel fine" they will pull you from the course. I know someone who had this happen to her at mile 25. She did not get to finish because her body temp was at 94 degrees.
I think it's commendable for people to go out and finish what they started. The Boston Marathon is a bucket list, once in a lifetime event for many runners. They spend a minimum of 5 months training for it, if they ran with a charity bib, they had to raise at bare minimum $5,000, and likely much more. Congratulations to them for getting back out there and finishing this weekend.

Look up "hypothermia" and read what you find. It might save your life or keep you from killing your kid or elderly parent someday.

Who's paying for police details, traffic safety, ambulances & "clean-up"?
