Stork flies the coop in Stoneham

Missing stork

The Stone Zoo reports one of its storks is missing.

During training for the Masters of Flight: Birds of Prey show on Friday afternoon, the white-bellied stork flew away. The bird, whose name is Las, was last seen on Saturday morning in the vicinity of Stone Zoo and nearby Spot Pond.

Las stands about 3 feet tall, has a white belly, dark iridescent purple wings, neck and back, a featherless face and long legs. The bird has a wingspan of about 3 feet.

The bird is not dangerous, and could be walking on the ground or perched in a tree. If you see Las, please do not approach as this could cause the bird to fly away. Please call 314-600-4873 and staff will come to get the bird.

To the young stork with galliforme sympathies who may be eager to get into the real fighting as quickly as possible, the Turkey Liberation Front offers the readiest means. Every able-bodied avian who is willing to fight for the liberation of Greater Brookline is welcomed as a brother to its ranks, whatever his species and without regard to his stature. For scores of years the Liberation Front had been famous, even notorious, as the refuge of birds of feather, scavengers, migrants and adventurers of all types---of all the outcasts of, flocks in fact. This unenviable reputation is no obstacle, however, in the way of young avians who are anxious to get into the fighting-lines by the easiest and quickest means possible. If you are were willing to take your chances.

Those turkeys are always ready to send other birds out as shotgun-fodder, while they plot and maneuver to their own advantage. To you they crow about liberation, but in their back-roosts they gobble in low tones about profit and seed. Why do you think they are so fat?

My son was born just down the road - his brother used to tell him that we picked him up at the zoo!

That hospital closed in 1999 or so.

I'll take her to Stoneham, find the zookeeper, and give him the bird. [2/2]
