Drivers that do this need to have their CDL suspended and go back to training.

One of the recent, better improvements in traffic light technology is "pre-emption" for emergency vehicles so that they get a green light on their way to an emergency. It has reduced accidents involving police, fire and EMS signicantly

I'm sure a system could be adapted to give overheight trucks a red light if they are approaching a low bridge. Aside from the property damage, It's just a matter of time before someone gets killed.

It may not prevent all "Storrowing" but probably better than the cow bells or whatever they use now.

They have done this at the trestle in Durham NC that gets so many hits.

Sort of ... they have to let it turn green sometime to let the trucks turn and some don't get it or just run the light at speed.

"I'm sure a system could be adapted to give over-height trucks a red light if they are approaching a low bridge.:
-------------------------------------
To say "I'm sure a system ..." is, well, simplistic.
You're GUESSING that a solution exists that's COST EFFECTIVE.
-------------------------------------
Make that: COST EFFECTIVE.to the government.
Now, the 'hitter' (or hitter's insurance) pays.
-------------------------------------
Engineering IS NOT ... finding an answer that works.
Without considering cost. That's what sub-teens do.
Engineering IS ... finding a COST EFFECTIVE answer.

1. require basic navigation skills as part of licensing and test on them
2. revoke the license of any truck driver who does this.

I live in that neighborhood. The signs are plentiful. The detour is well marked.

There should be signs that not only warn truck drivers about a low bridge, but also warn truck drivers of detours or alternate routes to take, in order to avoid this kind of storrowing

I’d just like to mention that the Orange Line is on the top of that bridge. If it was damaged by a careless truck driver, it would have major implications for riders on that end the Orange Line.
