7 News Alliteration Madness!

Someone over at Channel 7 seriously needs to drop the thesaurus or get a new one.

Has anyone else noticed how annoying their alliteration is when they are titling these stories? Especially when there's big news, the graphics people go nuts with alliterating everything. During one newscast we counted at least 7 different alliterations, and this was just one one storm report.

With all the crazy weather we're having at the moment, I think we should place our bets on what the alliterations will be tonight. Here are a few that I've thought of:

Wild Weather
Super Storm
Windy Wilma
Scituate Swamped (or Socked, or Soaked)
Flooding Fears
Traffic Trauma
Trailer Trouble (for the story on the truck that turned over on the Bourne Bridge)
Weather Woes

See how easy (and annoying) it is?

I just realized that since this is a Nor'easter, that tonights headlines will all be alliterated with the letter N.

Nasty Nor'easter is now on the top of my list...

I kind of get impressed with the acting and annunciation skills of the anchors who are able to say, with a straight face, "Wild Weather across New England creats flooding fears in the wake of Wilma."

I know for a fact that this is done on purpose. I used to date someone who worked (may still work) at Channel 7 and she said they're very purposeful doing this. That some sort of "testing" and what have you has show that it soothes people and brings them into the viewing more with the alliteration. Don't think it's something cutesy. It's done to do exactly what they want...to get your sorry ass to watch their channel.

I love Channel 7! I'm fully aware that they have all kinds of tricks to get me to watch, and I have to say it works. CBS4 and Channel 5 put me to sleep and Fox25 just tries a little too hard. I know with Channel 7 that I'll get some cheesy alliteration, flashy graphics, some decent news and a heaping of overhyped fluff, but it's fast-paced and fun to watch. I get all my real news on the internet anyways...

I too, notice this overuse of alliteration. It drives me up the wall! I don't care whether this is done with purpose or not...it's annoying, and an old, stale tactic designed to create hype over the most insignificant thing.

When one newscast is flooded with "Breaking News" and "Storm Force" multiple times per show, it lessens the credibility of a story that's actually worthy of putting attention-getting music & graphics to it. It got to the point where even if some government official was shot, and they put the typical "Breaking News" motif on screen, I'd never know about it...mostly due to the fact that I'd change the station, since most of these "important" stories have no bearing on my personal life, or just hold very little meaning in public life.

Channel 7...stop trying to make the negative aspects of life into mini movies, and start reporting the news!

7 News Boston is a slick presentation of fake breaking news, rehashed stories from the previous day and childish alliterations. Their ratings are mared by the average intelligence level of those who actually tune in. Every freakin' day, they "break" a story that may be days old. They are always proclaiming "new details about..." when in fact there are no new details, simply re-worded stories from earlier stories. I haven't watched 7 News Boston in months, save but for a few times when I'm half-asleep when it comes on. Channels 4 and 5 are doing some of the same crap, but it's not quite as much. Pretty soon, I'll be getting all of my news via the internet.
